Into the Primative - Fire Building from Friction

I was sitting around one day after watching an episode of Myth Busters on TV. The episode in question was on ways of making fires without matches or lighters. I wondered what I would do if I was ever in a position where I needed fire but had no easy way of producing it. I decided to focus my attention on friction–specifically the bow and drill. The following write-up is my attempt to put my experience into words. Please enjoy.

Blah Blah Blah…National Weather Service…Blah Blah Blah…Warning…Blah Blah Blah

The last couple of years have been incredibly strange with regards to the weather. Tsunamis, hurricanes, droughts, swarms of locusts, rains of blood, and other natural disasters have been in the news so much that many folks simply stare at the headlines and wonder, “What’s next?” Depending on where you live, you have to prepare for a number possible natural disasters or weather events. People on the coast, as we’ve seen so graphically, need to be prepared for a hurricane. If you live on a fault line, you should have an earthquake response plan. Here in the Midwest, one of our biggest recurring threats is the tornado.
