Antibiotic ointment is used to treat and prevent infection of open wounds such as cuts and scrapes.

Usage

Antiseptic ointment is used to treat minor wounds only. Following cleansing of the wound the antibiotic ointment is applied liberally and then covered with a clean, sterile bandage.

Side Effects

Antiseptic Ointment should not be used in cases of deep wounds as it is not for internal use but only topical applications. Nor is it meant for treating seriously infected (septic) wounds, those require proper antibiotics.
