Tourniquets
From ZombieSquadWiki
A tourniquet is a strap, usually consisting of either a rubber strip/tube or a belt-like strap, that is used to constrict blood flow to some part of the body such as an arm or leg. Tourniquets are somewhat controversial due to the fact that, especially when used improperly, they can cause damage to or loss of the extremity to which they are limiting blood flow. While they are usually included in a first aid kit, they should be used with caution.

Use
Tourniquets are generally not used in civilian medicine and even then only as a last resort. They are used by the military in combat where major limb traumas occur regularly. During extreme situations (i.e. major disasters) where there is no access to advanced life support (ALS) and major limb trauma has occurred (i.e. traumatic amputation) the application of a tourniquet is an option. However, one applied by a first aid provider it may not be loosened or removed. The date and time of application of the tourniquet should be noted and attached to the patient.
