Understanding Blizzards
Preparing for a Blizzard
Preparing for a blizzard is relatively simple, be aware of the weather, store water, food, and be able to provide your own warmth. When a blizzard hits it will make movement nearly impossible, and once its over all but the most capable vehicles will be stranded.
Be Aware of the Weather
Blizzards don't hit without warning, often there will be several days warning that some sort of snow is coming. You should take advantage of this early warning so that you can plan to avoid travel and double check all of your supplies.
Water
You should always have plenty of water on hand for any situation and blizzards are no exception. Fortunately blizzards provide plenty of water on their own, as long as you have a source of heat you can melt snow to produce clean water.
Food
Food should be stored for any possible emergency. During and after a blizzard you will likely not be able to acquire food, so whatever you have stored is what you will have to live on until the roads are clear and you are able to get out again.
Blizzard Aftermath
Blizzards leave a relatively peaceful aftermath of deep snow, no traffic, and lots of unfortunate individuals trapped in cars. As long as you remember to prepare properly and not travel when a blizzard is imminent, you should come out just fine.
