Antihistamines are used to treat allergic reactions, which can be mildly annoying to debilitating. If you have allergies or expect to be responsible for someone with allergies then an antihistamine such as Benadryl would be very important to your first aid kit.

Usage
There are many different types of allergic reaction, everyone is subject to some kind or another. Antihistamines are useful for treating these reactions.
Airborne Allergens
Many people suffer from allergic reactions to airborne allergens, this is one of the most common uses for antihistamines. Symptoms of these reactions can be mild or debilitating, requiring treatment to allow the allergy sufferer to function.
Stings
Many plants and animals have "stings" that cause allergic reactions. Bees, wasps, and poison ivy are a few common examples of stingers.
Side Effects
- Antihistamines can often cause a person to become dizzy or drowsy, so these possible side effects should be considered before it administered and non-drowsy antihistamines should also be considered for inclusion in your FAK.
