Ammonia Inhalants, commonly referred to as "smelling salts", are a fast way to prevent or treat some cases of fainting, however, they have fallen out of popularity among many medical professionals and are often considered to be obsolete or even harmful.

Usage

Ammonia inhalants are used to wake someone who has fainted or "shock them out of it" if they are about to faint by placing the inhalant under their nose cause a somewhat startled reaction.

Side Effects

Ammonia, in any quantity, is toxic and can cause lung damage if too much is inhaled. It can also burn sensitive skin and eyes and may cause blindness.
