Dundee Rig - V2.0 /w Leather Sheath and 3 Mounting options

Postby gillis » Thu Jul 15, 2010 9:40 pm

I'm a rookie at leathercraft but I did land some nice tooling leather and made this. Pretty happy with the concept. Maybe a real leather craftsman can run with the idea. The Knife is a Buck Nighthawk.

new images where I replaced the paracord with Leather lace and added a mini-maglight holder.

Mounting Option #1 Dundee Style. Paracord is unraveled and looped over shoulders and then secured through vertical Belt Strap. Seperate Paracord knot is slipped through belt to keep it from bouncing or simply tucked under belt if you wear yours tight enough. I have found this to be sufficient.

Mounting Option #2 Vertical on belt - Standard
Image
Mounting Option #2 horizontal on belt - Admittedly I could have moved it further in so it wasn't sticking out so far but this is just to illustrate the idea.

Cheers!

It is not hard with the two straps. Attach one quickly then the other and then come back and fix the first if needed. Like anything else. Practice makes perfect. I would not recommend going fast the first time. Another thing to note is that the knife fits perfect in the leather/plastic "blade cover" part. If it was loose then it would be more dangerous

thanks

That thing looks awesome! It looks very well built. Slap yourself on the back for a job well done.

I don't know If I qualify as "a real leather craftsman" but I do make leather goods. You did very well ESPECIALLY if that is your first attempt. Add to the whole thing you incorporated three mounting options I am impressed. I am not a big fan of crossing man made material, like the straps, with leather but it came off pretty darn well. A little work on your stitching and I say you well on your way to making sellable leather goods. Well done!

Thanks. I took your advice and replaced the paracord with leather lace. I will dye it to match soon!

I'd raise an eyebrow at the practicality of the Dundee carry position, but I think this is darn well rendered. Good job, sir!
