Good times.

Yeah I just got woken up by this in southern indiana at Indiana University. A lot of people up in northern Indiana also felt it around the Gary and South Bend area. It lasted for 10+ seconds any idea on location? Wabash fault line?

It looks like it was the fault line in Illinois, which I just found out is still the Wabash fault line/ New Madrid Seismic Zone. By the GIS website it looks like it was a 5.4 on the richter scale.

[Tin foil comment:] Been saying for years that the fault line, that has been laying dormant under the Miss. river, was just waiting for it's moment.

Back to bed. It's all over the news now. Gonna check up on family who live outside of Evansville.

Everyone OK? Utilities intact here, water jugs filled, bob in my truck. Ready for worse here.

Scared the crap out of me.

I was lying awake in bed and felt it. It lasted about 5 seconds or so. As soon as I got up I starting checking online for news reports to make sure I wasn't losing it. :)

That freaked me out. I was in bed sound asleep and dreamy then crappy starts flying off of my book shelves. Honestly the first time I've experienced anything like that. But I learned something very important in the past few moments. My aunt doesn't know how to or where to turn her gas off at in case of an emergency. Add to TOP of to do list.

Now I is going back to bed.

Louisville area ringing in too. Good test of the family here. Wife was moving for the kids immediately while I went for a light and started to gather info. But yea, we could feel it here, so much so that it woke everyone up in the house.

I heard someone say that Missouri is so riddled with caves that if there was ever a strong earthquake the whole state would collapse.

Is everyone still above ground?

rattled the bed pretty good here in the Peoria area. Looks like everything is OK. Never felt anything like it before.

Felt it here too. Scared the crap out of me. Didn't know if it would get worse or anything, then I got to thinking about aftershocks. Oh well now I know what a minor quake feels like. Id hate to have to go through a larger one.

I woke my brother up, he didn't believe me. Does now though haha.

Must have been worse for you guys in the st. louis area here it just made my house sway a bit. Nothing fell off the shelves or anything, didn't even knock over my precariously stacked dvd's.

We're in SouthWestern Ohio... Wife woke up at the first hint of it... By the time she woke me up (It was only 5 seconds... I slept through it just fine... Thats what you get for spending a decade and a half of summers in california as a kid), it was over... She said there was an earthquake.. I said, this is ohio... worse case it was new madrid... Go check the TV if you want, then fell back asleep.

-1 for me not reacting appropriately, mitigated by the fact it was 4:40 in the morning... Now, if I can only remember that next time I'm woken up out of a hard sleep, and am groggy as hell...

I'll do a property check when I get home, see if there's any damage... Do you need a special rider for earthquake insurance in ohio, or should it be part of the basic policy?

Ice

I felt the bed shake and heard a bit of a rumble for a few seconds.

I wasnt sure if it was an earthquake or the burrito I had for dinner.

I was asleep at the firehouse and thought it was an explosion and was getting prepared to be called out. Once all the radio chatted died down I said screw and went back to bed to get my beauty sleep which I so desperately need.

So, do all you folks in the American Basin know what to do in an earthquake? Growing up in California, it was drilled into us from an early age.

In my sleep addled-state I totally thought it was some crazy wind. Then I woke up to an email from my mom, just north of Louisville, asking if we'd made it through the earthquake ok. Now I'm weirdly excited that I've experienced my first earthquake.
