Jen has posted over on "Off Topic" that Pat (HK33) passed away this evening.

I thought I'd post the link here as this is the forum where most of us knew Pat and where his friends here would be most likely to see it.

I'm just stunned and saddened myself. I never met Pat in real life, but enjoyed his comments and PM's here and looked forward to meeting him at the SHOT show or some other event sometime.

Here's Jen's thread:

I wanted to post it here, but I didn't know if it was appropriate.

I want to thank you all again for your support. I'll be around. This is so fucked up - I want to just scream and break shit. I have never felt as much pain as I do right now - he should not be dead.

It really does help to talk to all of you. This board was a part of his life and those pieces are all I have left of my soulmate.

Pat contributed so much to the firearms forum that it's definately appropriate here.

Thanks Brash. I just don't know right now. You guys don't understand - they said I saved his life by stopping him from choking on his tongue and then 20 minutes later he was just gone. I held his hand while he went...he wasn't supposed to die. He was healthy, sitting up - had only taken one Tylenol 3 ALL DAY LONG (and you guys saw the wound). He was fine, and now he's gone.

I'm dead inside.

It's weird to go into the firearms section knowing that HK33K is not around. I didn't really know him well but he gave me advice on several occasions. He's a famous guy. You have my most sincere condolences and I wish there was more my wife and I could do to ease your pain. I know how it feels to lose someone close to you and feel empty inside. I found that it's true what they said about time and the healing of wounds. Give it time, Jen. One day you'll come to terms with what happened and realize that it's not goodbye, just "see you around". He's not gone, not entirely. As long as we have our memories, he'll be immortal. Then someday, you'll open your eyes and he'll help you to your feet saying, "welcome home". He's home now getting the house ready. Cleaning the Class III's. I know that in heaven, you'll probably never have to clean guns, but you can never be too sure.

Take care, Jen. You're in our thoughts and prayers.

That sucks. I never met the man but we did exchange a few PM and he was generous enough to send me a few of the correct stripperclips for my Post Sample CZ-26. The man was a class act and a font of knowledge, he will be missed.

Sorry for your loss Jen.

Very sorry to hear about your loss. Any time we lose some one in the declining gun culture we lose an family member.

My God keep you and God bless his soul.

Jen, I am truely at a loss for words. I didn't know Pat well, I was lucky enough to have a conversation with him via PM one time. With all his knowledge; he was always happy to answer questions, even if they were elementary to him. From the little I know about Pat, he was a great man.

He was the only person that I have seen leave AR15.comers completely speechless and drooling when he posted the pic he posted here. The one with the back of his truck filled with 40k of wolf. The shooting world has lost a friend.

I'm sorry for your loss. When my grandfather died at 72 my grandmother started going to grief support groups and volunteering at the local hospital. She still volunteers now, over 10 years later. She talks to families that have lost loved ones and she tells them you never get over the loss. When I was younger, it actually made me angry that she was telling families that. I didn't believe it, or didn't want to. Now I understand that you don't ever get over it, and that's ok.

Though you will move on in your life, he will always be in your thoughts, and that's ok.

I didn't interact with HK personally, but I appreciated what he added to the group and the forum. He will be celebrated.

I am totally at a loss for words.
I know there's nothing I could possibly say to ease your pain.
I did not know him well, but always respected his opinions on firearms.
This forum just lost one of it's greatest contributors. I hope you know that.
I will miss reading about his newest addition to his collection.

Godspeed, Pat
Catch ya on the flip side.

I'm just so sorry Jen.

I'm not the only one here who knew that appending the Subject line of a posting with "ATTN: HK33" would bring the straight dope on Class III stuff.
