New thread to replace ZS Postal Match.

Starting in October, PistolPete will be running the Postal Match. Pete has competed in most of the matches and wanted to continue our regular tradition so he's going to take it over.

He may make some changes to the way the match is run, at his discression, but the only change I'm aware of at this time is where the target results are to be mailed. Contestants will be sending targets in to the Zombie Squad P.O. Box in St. Louis, starting after the next match:

ZOMBIE SQUAD
P.O. BOX 63124
ST. LOUIS, MO. 63163

Pete will be taking over the postalmatch@zombiehunters.org e-mail address as well, so you can still send digital photos or scans of your target there.

The latest match will still continue to be made to the postal match page which can be found on the events page:
http://zombiehunters.org/events.php

First things first, I want to thank Bear_B for the year of time he offered up to run the postal matches so far. Between scoring the targets, mailing out certificates, prizes, and postcards inviting people to future matches, he gave great service over and above what I'd expect.

He did a great job, and I'm hoping to live up to his standard.

Second, if anybody has any suggestions for what you'd like to see in future matches, I'm open to any and all ideas- send me a PM with your thoughts.

For anyone that hasn't shot in one of the postal matches, I urge you to give it a shot. Over the last year, the matches have really gotten me to focus more on shooting well. Hitting the center of the target takes away all excuses. I now know the point of impact at different ranges for my rifles, and which loads shoot low in my .357. It's really been a great exercise. If you've been thinking about it, give it a shot one of these months.

One thing I'm going to add is a running total for people, and give out a prize at the 6 month and 1 year mark for the top three overall in points. So get out to the range- shoot early and shoot often!

+1! Thanks, Bear!

I assume this month's match (service pistol) is still on? I've been to the range twice since it was announced and shot like shit both times. So I bought a case of 9mm. I'll put a couple hundred through it this weekend and see if I'm not doing better.

Yeah man, this month's match is still on as far as I am concerned, however I have yet to get any targets.

Also, mucho thankso to PistolPete for taking this over. I am quite sure he will do ten times better with it than I ever did.

I am looking forward to actually being able to SHOOT in a few matches myself. 8)

The Postal Match is a lot to keep up with... more work than I had anticipated when I started running it, and we really didnt have all THAT many participants! But I have no doubt that PistolPete is up to the challenge and will do an OUTSTANDING job! At the rist of repeating myself, a big THANK YOU to Pete from me. It's way much appreciated bro. :D

I also see that since the last time I checked in about a week or so ago that there have been a number of new firearms purchases made, so hopefully everyone will be willing to participate in the future postal matches.

Good luck everyone, and shoot safe!!! 8)

Pete/ Bear,
I have decided not to participate in any pistol matches. Nothing against you guys or the competition itself, just that the training it generates is counter-productive to what I'm trying to do right now.
Best of luck to all!

If I can get to the range today, I'll email mine in....if not, I don't think I'll have a chance to compete this month. :( I've been working non-stop at my new job, and the only reason I'm off today is because it's my anniversary! But, I will try to get to the range today....I PROMISE.

I have found the pistol match INCREDIBLY useful. It's really good at pointing out my weaknesses so I know what to work on. I've had a bitch of a time with this service pistol match (I've gone to the range twice, thinking I was going to sumbit my targets from that day, and didn't hit for shit either time). I'd thought I was pretty good with my Sig, but it turns out I'm mostly harmless at anything more than about 10 yards. Didn't make it to the range this weekend, but this one coming up we're going to go to the range and burn up a whole goddamned case if that's what it takes.

I would love to get in some shooting with my .40 cal, and with my .22 (anyone going to be competing with either of those?)
I shoot most weekends anyway so I may print up a few ZS targets and mail them in! :P

Well, that .40 you can shoot in this months match, you've still got a few days left to get your targets in the mail to Bear_B.

And, as luck will have it- I'm planning a rimfire match for November.

But, for October, I am pleased to announce:

ZS Postal Match for October 2006

Standing Centerfire Rifle

Distance: 50 yards
Targets: 2
Rounds: 5 per target.
Stance: Standing and Unsupported
Sights: Any

I've always found shooting while standing to be quite humbling, and it's a great time of the year to practice. For those people who will be deer hunting in October and November, it'll really show you your limits. Very few people are accurate at great ranges while standing, yet many people shoot that way when hunting or casual plinking. I'm betting that scores will be lower than normal.

A change to note is you will only need to send in two targets. I'm going to try that for a while- if we end up with lots of ties I'll go back to three targets per entrant.

If you have any questions, drop me a PM or respond to this post. Now get out there and shoot!

Nice! I'm going to go to the range tomorrow with a full case of 9mm and shoot until my barrel melts or I show some substantial improvement. Steph too. So I'll get those targets to Bear this weekend.

And we should be able to get Steph's Kel-Tec out of layaway in time to for her to compete in the Oct. centerfire rifle match.

Question: You say, "Sights: Any." I presume this to mean magnifying optics, red dot sights, lasers, etc., etc. are all permitted. Is this correct? Cause Steph's SU-16 comes with a red dot sight.

We're getting a Savage .22, too, so we can compete in Novembers match as well.

AWESOME!

Nice! I have a 10/22 and have shot thousands of rounds out of it. .22 is the best target gun (I think) because of the cheap ammo and all around fun you can have with it!

Yes, any sight is fine, iron sights, scope, laser sights, holographic sights, whatever you have.

Good luck everyone!

Yea sorry about you not receiving any targets yet, I just got a new job and things have been very hectic around here, as soon as I get the targets printed out, which I am doing now, I will be going to the range. I could probably kill 2 birds with one stone though because I could do octobers match while I was there.

Question: If I submit a target now for october, but then halfway through October I go to the range again and do better, can I submit those and would they negate my original entries or am I only allowed to enter once a month? What I'm asking is, would it be better to sit on an entry to see if you do better or just send any entry you think is better in.

You can send in as many targets as you like, and I'll score the top two.

I'm not even gonna waste the stamp it would cost to send my october entries in, OMG I did horrible!!! I'm not thrilled with my performance on the Service Caliber Pistol either but its too late for me to reshoot that, those targets will be in the mail 2night.

With my USPt .45 I went 5 for 5 soda cans at 25 yards, yet my 15 yard target doesn't have a single hole in it, idk wtf was wrong with me today.

You should ALWAYS send your entries in... trust me, as the former Postal Match Judge, its frustrating as hell to have people talk all day on line about sending in entries and then decide not to for whatever reason.

There is really no point in running a postal match unless entries are sent in.

Besides, you would be suprised how many people bitch about their targets, but then end up doing a lot better than they thought, or even actually WINNING the match.

PLEASE send your entries in to Pete, no matter HOW bad you think they are.

I have a target from about a month ago, standing, from 75 yards and the accuracy on it using irons is sub-MOA. Today at 50 yards using my same AR and same ammo, same stance, same range, I'm lookin at about 10MOA, today musta been a really, REALLY off day for me, I'll still send them in but definately be expecting more entries from me.
