I wasn’t going to make this it’s on thread but my saw kicks ass so hear we go.

Now on to my little saw. (First design will update as I improve it)

hum might have to try my hand at this too... i had some super agressive carbide bits that would chew threw nearly any thing given time and will... i think i could use those with this too...

Pretty sweet! How exactly did you make the handle for the saw?

Also you should throw in water purification tablets. Dirt cheap and really small you could easily fit them in there. Maybe a plastic freezer bag with paracord wrapped around it on the outside?

Nice little kit and saw. How about something for water... one of those oven bags (they fold quite small and can be cut down to qt-sized to save even more space), a wire tie, and a few water purification tablets?

Its usually a small hard candy or a tea bag. Theoretically you could grind up a some electrolyte powder with a multivitamin and put it in a little stamp bag.

Ok the screwdriver end of the saw handle.

After I quick spin on the Lathe a cut down ¼ socket fits nicely.


Red lock tite and a nice crimp will keep it in place.

¼ sockets hold bits nicely.

I've seen the BOAT above... Using the tin as a handle makes it hard to get it into tight recesses... also, It doesn't look like a very secure attachment, and I could see myself tweaking the heck out of the tin if I tried to saw through anything tough with it.

I like 1.s.1.k's idea better. It's stronger, easier to use, and more versatile.

Wow I really need to do an update to this thread when I get a sec. I've changed a couple things in the boat and painted the saw blaze orange, I dropped it at the range and it was hard as hell to find when it was painted black.

Nice saw, I like where you are going with it.

If I were to design my own (and I just might) this is what I would do:
1. Tap those holes instead of using the nuts.... the nuts are just one more thing to lose and tightening it would be easier w/o the nuts.
2. Replace the 12-point socket with a 6 point socket.... your not likely to be able to get enough torque on that thing to strip the bit, but it would suck if you did.
3. Put a bit hole in the side of the handle. drill a 1/4" hole. Sit in front of the TV with a needle file and make the flats. This will give you the ability to really crank on it if needed which is nice because the current design doesn't give you much torque over just grabbing the bit itself.
Speaking of which I think I have seen needle files that fit in standard 1/4" hex, might be a good addition.

Anyway, I just can't get into the tin. just too small. For a little more size, there are a whole lot more things you can bring. But that's just me. I can appreciate the zen of the very small kit. Very nice job!

BOAT: Bug Out Altoid Tin

I think its sort of an EDC thing with the thought that you are more likely to carry something this size all the time than anything bigger. It slips into a pocket un-noticed and comfortably. Additionally its just a fun exercise in minimalism.

OR

drill a hole through the side just big enough to fit one of your other bits through, thus allowing like a T, without the possability of stripping out the slot you would have spent hours making just right to slip a bit in. and with this, you could even slip a small bolt through it thats small, but long enough to give you leverage while still keeping the downward force.

That's a good idea though I may go with smaller bits to take up less room. Don't know I really need to pull it out and fuck with it. It hangs out in my hunting or fishing vest depending on season.
