This seems to work with Fae when she buys new shoes.

You buy it, and then when he notices say: "What, this old thing? I can't believe you didn't notice it before! You never pay any attention to me blah blah blah" and then he will relent...

aaaaaa the old three month rule. If the other half doesn’t find it in three months, you had it when they moved in.

Just grabbed one of these, cheaper to get that to get 4 masks!

Makes sense imo even if nothing comes from this latest potential swine flu stuff...

I tried to sneak a rowing machine into the house last week under the “3 month rule”. She wants to know why she hasn’t seen it in three years; I told her it was in a box in the loft. Not sure I have got away with yet.

Hide receipts. They've not only buggered up my three month alibi but they've also screwed up my 'it was only a tenner on sale' trick too.

One Kukri ordered! :D Just got to be patient and wait for it to arrive now.

And hubby can't moan as I'll just claim I used my birthday money to buy it with. ;)

If you do get any stick, it looks like a "gardening tool" to me

Does anyone have a good UK source for a 24" (or 600mm if you're feeling metric) Titanium Crowbar?

I've been playing a lot of Half-Life 2 lately and I'm more and more coming around to the Crowbar fans way of thinking. Not 100% but some.

OK, OK.... here's a quick pic:

Image

It's a good weight (I was worried it would be heavy) though not as sharp as I was expecting but then never having handled a kukri before I'm not sure if that's the norm. The grip is nice as I have small hands and the Cordura sheath seems pretty tough. Overall I'm very pleased with it, especially for the price.

Chopping may have to wait until the weekend. There's some scrub land I have access to that's just crying out for a beating. ;)

Where did you order it from?

How does it feel swinging it?

I got it from the link Cyborg posted:

http://heinnie.com/product.asp?s=cdxqk8 ... &P_ID=4024

Free shipping and it came next day, Recorded Delivery. Very impressed.

I'm still getting used to it as I don't normally use anything bigger than a Mora. ;) It feels good, though maybe a little light in the grip.

For masks, gloves, coveralls etc. you can do a lot worse than this national chain of industrial supply stores:

http://www.greenham.com/

Even at full retail price they're cheaper than the DIY sheds, and they're big on giving discounts to the employees of their corporate customers.

[edit]
I see they've put a message on their home page to cash in on flu ...

Do you envy the US their cheap-and-readily-available Mountain House dehydrated rations? Wish there was something similar available in Blighty?

Well, here's a UK supplier of "Pack 'n' Go" feeeze-dried meals (which seem to be manufactured in Ireland):
http://www.expeditionfoods.eu/Pack%27n% ... 202007.pdf
Their shop (which seems keenly priced as these things go):
http://www.be-well.co.uk/quickshop.php

Caveat: I've never actually used them myself, but I was watching the Timewatch documentary on the Shackleton centenary expedition to the South Pole and they *did* use them!
http://www.bbc.co.uk/timewatch/shackleton.shtml

Second caveat: if they taste like rehydrated cardboard, then they're no worse than the Mountain House offerings ...

3-piece French messkit, £3.89 delivered.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 0386706061

Mine arrived promptly, and is in respectable condition (it will benefit from a good scrub with a scouring pad and there's no way it will ever be as shiny as the one in the photo).
