Flash Grenades

Would it be possible to stun zombies with flash grenades? If both their eyes and ears are still functioning, I don't see why it wouldn't be possible to overwhelm their senses with one before clearing a room.

Interesting... they use all their senses equally, so with no sight or hearing... and all they'd be smelling is gunpowder. I suppose that this would be an excellent temporary/battle method.

Doh! I did a search and all, but it didn't turn up the other flash grenade thread a little bit lower.

We're having a discussion over in Zombie Biology which relates directly to this. :) How would you suggest going about testing exactly how effective these would be, under controlled conditions? (Why do this? Because it either eliminates things off your scavenging list if it doesn't work well, or it places things higher up in priority if it does work. Besides, it's safer to test it in a controlled situation first.)

How many lumens does a flash grenade give off, and how many decibels does a flash-bang produce?

they might work. theres enough scenes in zombie movies where zombies are lured/distracted by loud noises and lights, so i would imagine they might work. also, in a closed room, the shock is powerful enough that their eardrums may rupture. theyre LOUD. but i wouldnt carry one or more. theres other stuff id rather carry, and if i were to drop it, im blinded/deaf too. thats just my opinion.

Sure they might work. I'm going to go down to walmart and pick some up this evening.

1 main large problem, the noise is sure to attract zombies to the location of the explosion if it is really loud

Does anyone know the legality of owning flashbangs in the US? Are they classified as destructive devices?

Well, according to all the previous threads we've had on this subject, only cops can own them. And even then, you don't get to keep them.

There are also some new concussion grenades out there that take the flash bang a step farther and actually rupture the ear-drums and knock the wind out of the people in a room. But you'ld be hard pressed to get ahold of em.

Don't feel bad, they suck anyway. About 1 in 10 doesn't go off, because the blasting cap disengages from the grenade when it hits the floor too hard.
