Personal FAK

Postby Murph » Sun Jan 11, 2009 9:33 am

I have a larger FAK for my BOB, but now I'm working on a PSK/GHB, and I still want to carry a FAK for just incase.
I have a small pouch below that I plan on using, but I have no real idea of what to put in it. It can hold two decks of cards.

My lame attempt has the following:
First Aid pamphlet (My Red Cross Training has lasped)
Dental Floss
Roll of Gauze
Bottle of StingEze
3 Sterile 2"x2" Pads
Knuckle Bandaid
Fresh Towelette
Small patch of moleskin
7 large bandaids
1 medium bandaid
1 wide bandaid
1 Butterfly Closure
2 Packets of "Neo To Go!"

Can someone help me get this kit up to snuff, given the size constraints?

Does your BOB at least have: water, basic tools, fire, food, first-aid kit, and shelter?

How were you planning on attaching the gauze pads? Try and get some form of medical tape in there. If you can't get a roll, I suppose (I have no idea what this would do to the adhesiveness) you could reroll some, ala duct tape. Heck, you could even use duct tape.

For something as decidedly non-trauma as that looks, I'd almost say drop the roll of gauze and get some sort of ACE wrap. Then again, you could go the other direction and upgrade it to a roll of Primed: the compression factor would probably let you get a full 4" roll in there.

...and while this might be out of your price range, you couldn't go wrong with a Benchmade 5 hook.

What's your purpose for this? EDC?

I have a IFAK that I keep w/ my range gear, but it is as big as the larger MOLLE pack you show under the small FAK and card decks. I was barely able to cram enough in that....

For boo-boos and EDC, I'd find some of those single use packs of Pepcid, Imodium, and ibuprofen. A couple alcohol or betadyne wipes would be handy too.

Don't confuse a belligerent and aggressive attitude with the strength, training, and conditioning needed to prevail in a fight. How do you know you have the Will To Win, if you don't even have the will to train?

I guess my photos were too dazzling!

I wanted to make something small to put inside a PSK/GHB as a just incase kind of thing.

The larger FAK I have is referenced here: viewtopic.php?f=43&t=24795
I'm pretty happy with that one.

You can check out my EDC-FAK here if you like. Your container seems to be very similar in size to what I carry.
Church: What a shitty medical school.
Tucker: Yeah, where'd you go, the University of Jamaica?
Doc: Oh please, I wouldn't be caught dead on that campus. I went to Jamaica State! We were the Jamaica State Fighting Irish!

Um... Mine's about 4x smaller though.
It's only: 4" x 3" x 1.5"

Just curiously, does this bag have any compartments inside, or is it primarily just one big area inside? It doesn't change what all I would add to it, but just wondering if there is any kind of way toseperate different things. Two things that I don't see, but are relatively easy to pack in, would be a pair of nitrile gloves, and a face mask. I guess if you don't ever plan on using this on someone else, then they would be kinda moot. But, just in case a buddy/girlfriend/whatever happened to get a booboo, , I would at least want the gloves, but that's just me.

Let me poke around in my stash, and see what I can come up with.

Oh yeah, check your PMs too... :D

Yeah, I've been meaning to get some nitrile gloves, but I can seem to find anything less then a 50 pack. Somehow that seems a bit excessive for me.

Drop 2 of 2x2 add a 2 4x4/4x3
Add a couple more butterflys (though they seems kinda out of place)
.22LR/.357/Cheese Cake/SAK/Grey Wire

I worked out a deal with "Don't Tread On Me" and he sent me the following awesomeness:

And here's my lame ass CVS run for basic crap:

All in all... I'm going to need something a little bit bigger to put all this in. :D

Long time coming, but after looking around at different med kits and stuff, here's what I got in the main pouch:

The smaller attached pouch is just for "small" boo-boos.

Looks good man! Now you're set for everyday boo-boos, and pretty much anything else you're likely to encounter on any given day. Just one thought though; I've never had good luck with the tape that comes in those metal container thingies. If you get a chance down the road, I'd suggest picking up some 3M Durapore (I think Nexcare sells it OTC) heavy cloth tape. I use it to hold my painkiller patches on, and have absolutely no issues with it staying on in the shower, in the pool, etc.

All in all, way to go man!
