I really dig my Jeep so far, I bought it from the original owner; who kept it in the garage since it was new. The interior is frinkin mint, everything works on the truck, runs like a top. The engine is a 258 ci, with manual three speed; it purrs like a kitten. The only thing I don't like about it.

This thing drinks more gas than my old 78 fulltime 4wd Chevy with a 350 and 35"tires. I think the combo of no overdrive and some really deep gears-I think 4.11's, is the reason for this. My buddy recorded something and showed it to me.

They had a old J10 like mine, put it in first gear and diconnected the coil. Then the guy starts cranking the motor and the truck starts climbing this very short and very steep incline. Cool stuff

I have to revise my vehicle "dream team" to include this:

That's right.. a MNDoT snowplow. Impossible to stop, room in the bed for ANYTHING (including a nice 4trax) runs on deisel, and look at that beauty of a cockpit! Hehehe, no I'd have to rip most of that stuff out to stow gear but still...Mr. Plow, that's my name...that name again is Mr. Plow!

Yep, all we need is a couple of sturdy ramps and we could load my J10 up as a scout/recon vehicle!

First, a confession: I am 25 years old and have never possessed a driver's license. I just have never needed a car, I've always lived close to school, I can cover a lot of ground on my bike, and I bum rides from friends. It's something I'm working on.

Current transportation: "Specialized" brand mountain/street bike, painted black/gray/olive green camo, rear rack with panniers (need to fix those). B.O.B. brand Yak trailer, same camo, on quick detach rear axle, with Dry Sak. Cat's Eye incandescent light, red blinker.

Planned modifications: LED headlight, front rack and panniers, rifle scabbard across handlebars.

Planned vehicle: Dodge 4WD diesel pickup. Modify it to run on biodiesel: it should still run on normal diesel for now, some communities have biodiesel fuel already, and you can make your own (from used cooking oil). Where I used to live, Humboldt County CA, biodiesel vehicles were semi-common, and there was a biodiesel station in town. Fuel costs about the same as normal diesel now, but if oil becomes scarce, could be cheaper. Not flammable like petrol.

Short term modifications: Bull bars, maybe some off roading modifications. Tubular steel rack in bed, adjustable height, with reinforced section over the can you can sit/stand up there. (For a variety of reasons.) Some kind of seats in the bed, along the sides, over the wheel wells. Ladder to access the roof easily. Bitchin' camo paint job.

Later/possible modifications: Bulletproof windows when I can afford them. Hatches on cab roof sufficient to exit vehicle through them, stand up in them to fire weapons, etc., via corresponding hatches in the rack.

Need a cool name; wish I'd been the one to think of "Dead Reckoning." Have to work on that.

1994 Buick Park Avenue. It's my babe magnet. It's in very good condition, new transmission and fuel injection was put in before I bought it, and I bought it from a mechanic, his mother's old car.

Or I could attatch my snow plow on my dad's truck. All I really know about it is that it's green, runs on diesel, duel tanks, and a bed surrounded by a 3.5 foot high steel grate and plywood fence. I like it.
To tell you the truth, zombies in this world would be kind of interesting. I'd probably be bitten, but then, so would a lot of people.

For serious BOV You need a 4X4 with a lot of cargo capacity. your gonna need to haul a lot of stuff and your car wont do it.

With gas being so expensive Get ready to buy some great deals on Old V8 trucks. I would steer clear of jeeps not enough cargo capacity for an all out bug out.

Hell, I envy you. I'm trying to find a way to get rid of my jeep without defaulting on the loan. Fucking gas prices.

DON'T GET RID OF THE JEEP1@!!!!

I'm hurting from gas prices too but my Grand Cherokee stays mine. 15 MPG isn't nice, but since I only have to refuel once a month the prices may have dropped by the time I have to get gas again. ;)

That's about twice as well as I do. And I have to refuel every two or three days, as I can't afford to fill it up completely each time.

Eh I make 350 km with around 60 liters in my jeep 4.0. Fulling once a week at 75$ is getting on my nerves. I've thought of getting rid of it myself also. But man it's a sweet ride.

I'm driving a 2002 GMC Yukon XL w/ a 'cattle catcher' grill, 4x4 and enough room to put 9 people comfortably with their gear.

I also have a towing package, if need be, i could pull a fairly heavy trailer. I know it works on a lowboy trailer with a full load of hay (looking at about 2000lb)

I have a 98 Toyota Tacoma 4x4. Already put it through its paces with a road trip to Alaska up to the Arctic Circle and and back through many national parks along the way. 10,220 miles total. No problems. None as of today. Also have a KLR650 as a back up. Would like a pre "pimped out" Mercedes G-Wagon. Before the became bling mobiles and were true military vehicles.

Why steer clear of Jeeps??

My 01 Grand Cherokee 4x4 has plenty of cargo capacity. I went on a 3 day camping trip for 4 people and fit all 4 people and ALL THE GEAR into my grand cherokee. (Granted it looked like a scene out of the beverly hillbillies, just needed the rocking chair on the top), but everything fit.
