In the same vein as the ""Firearms Hot or Not", "Communications Hot or Not" and the "Show off your BOB" threads, this thread is dedicated to sharing your personal First Aid Kit gear which can be your individual first-aid kit, a trauma kit, vehicle first aid kits, Medical aid bag from work, etc.

You can include a detailed list of contents, pictures, links, your reasons for choosing your set up, and anything else you want related to your FAK equipment but PLEASE keep regular discussion or comments on previous posts off this thread. If you would like your gear critiqued PLEASE feel free to start a new thread.

In fact, including a link to the discussion of your bag is probably a good idea. The next post in this thread is a good example.

OK... here's my back up pack when the E-CAK (Emergency Comfort Aid Kit) gets dropped or lost in a drunken stupor or something.


It's not that cool but it's not bad for a civilian.

The bag:



I need to get some fancy molle accessories to attached to the side for a few items that need quicker access like Scissors, gloves, face masks, etc



The Red Smoke grenade is in case I need to signal air support or if I need to distract my nemisis for a quick get away.




Various Meds, electrolites and crap. This is the junk drawer of the med kit




This is the boo boo section of the First Aid Kit. Contains, ointments, alcohol/antiseptic wipes, band-aids, small rolls of gauze, and things to deal with non-urgent medical needs.




The inside is where all the emergency care crap is. I'm tired of typing so just look at it yourself:

Oh, I have some eye wash stuff. Forgot to put it in the bag. Going to toss in a bottle of water or two in for the electrolite packets as well.

NFA's FAK and Trauma Bag

As you can see, my model can support the weight of the loaded bag without a problem...



The top, outside, zipped pocket contains: Leatherman Squirt P4, Fox40 Whistle, Fenix L2D flashlight, and a foam clown nose...



The bottom, outside, zipped pocket contains: "Mountaineering Medicine" (a great little book on 1st-aid), rite in the rain notebook, sharpies, hand-sanitizer gel packets, nitrile gloves, fire-starting kit...

Inside the main pocket, I have a bunch of ziplocked bags of supplies by use:



Wipes and ammonia inhalants...



Along the back of the pack, there is a divider, behind which I have a heavy-weight space blanket and some bandanas...



Some miscellaneous supplies - scissors/forceps, SAM splint, cold-pack, betadine surgical scrub (not that I'll be performing surgery, but these things allow you to really clean your hands, even under fingernails, if you need to get in someone's bloody bits), and Gatorade for rehydration (I use twice as much water as indicated in the directions)...



Gauze and combine dressings...



Meds - reusable thermometer, suntan goop, benadryl, blistex, triple antibiotic goop, cough drops, aspirin/advil/tylenol, actifed, pepto-bismol, immodium, hydrocortisone goop...



Minor wound closure - bandaids aplenty, steri-strips, superglue, and some moleskin hiding in the pile of bandaids



Trauma dressings - israeli bandage, bloodstopper dressing, aberdeen dressing, muslin bandage...



Kerlix...6 of them...



Tape...7 rolls...

My Trauma Bag is a companion piece to the FAK, designed with broken or leaky people in mind...



The main pocket contains most of the stuff...



The contents of the main pocket - 3 izzy's, SAM splint, space blanket, 3 bloodstopper dressings, 4 combine dressings, 4 gauze pads, Celox clotting agent, QuikClot sponge, 2 Asherman Chest Seals (ACS), 6 packages of Kerlix...



There's a sleeve/pocket/space in between the pockets, just right for another copy of "mountaineering medicine", a rite in the rain pad, a couple of sharpies, and some antibacterial wipes...



The middle pocket has - a betadine surgical scrub (with fingernail scraper), nitrile gloves, saline for wound irrigation...



The final pocket has - scissors, forceps, clothes rippers, muslin bandage, 5 rolls of tape, and a business card-wrap of gorilla tape...

I like to have the big bags for group outings or camping trips, but for general use and shorter outings, I just bring and my EDC FAK along, and shove it in whatever bag I'm carrying...

This is the FAK that I bring everywhere with me...to work, on hikes, geocaching, camping, on field trips, etc...

Here are all of the components unpacked from the FAK...I like the bags because it keeps thing separate/organized/dry and also stops all of the stuff from rubbing itself apart when I move the FAK from place to place...




1st bag - nitrile gloves, tape, triangular bandage, secure strips...




2nd bag - israeli bandage (IZZY)...




3rd bag - kerlix, combine dressings, bloodstopper dressing...




4th bag - bandaids of various shapes/sizes, second skin, hand sanitizer, sting-eze, tweezers...




5th bag - saline for irrigation and clorox (for water treatment and/or making disinfectant solution)...clorox is in a second ziplock




6th bag - (going clockwise from top) slap-on thermometer, advil and tylenol, wet ones and nice n' clean wipes, sunscreen, betadine wipes, hand sanitizer, triple antibiotic, insect repellent, duct tape, benadryl (tabs and strips) pepto bismol, actifed, immodium...




7th bag - gorilla tape wrapped around ZS card (in its own ziplock), whistle, multitool, flashlight...

This is my trauma kit. That's a rescue mask hanging on the outside*. There are 2 green glowsticks in a hidden pocket. The poncho I used as a backdrop is also part of this kit.


Part one of this tri-fold bag: 4 nasopharyngeal tubes**, 2 israeli bandages, 2 slings, 4 pair of nitrile gloves, 1 pair of trauma shears, 2 combat app tourniquets**.


Part two: kerlix and a roll of durapore medical tape.


Part three: water-jel bandage, 1 lg and 2 sm military field dressings, 2 chest seals**, 2 sam splints**, 2 packets of cera-lyte, 2 ace bandages.

*I've taken first aid/cpr classes in the past with the Red Cross, but my 1 year cert is expired.

My range FAK is in a plastic case which used to hold a basic household boo-boo box. It now holds:

half a dozen or so 2" gauze pads
half a dozen or so alchohol wipes
a handful of plain-old bandaids
1 eye pad
1 tweezers
2 disposable straight razors from County Comm

1 spare pocketknife (I had an extra laying around, and there was room for it...)
1 glowstick
1 tube neosporin (aka: magic minor wound spackle)
1 CPR shield clipped to the box's handle

In addition, both my range bag & my pick-up have a roll of duct tape in them in case the medical tape fails to git-r-dun. The kit is set up for two levels of care: The minor "I got a splinter" & "I cut myself on the rusty junk we're shooting at" level or the "Oh shit, that idjit Cleetus done plugged me!" level. The glowstick & flashlight are there because the S never seems to HTF when there's plenty of light to see just how bad the splatter is, and I figure that between those two & my EDC flashlight I'll have at least one functioning light source.

At some point I need to put together a proper camping/day-to-day type med kit with ACE bandages, SAM splints, a metric fuck-ton of kerlex, some Immodium AD, and what's left of the boo-boo box supplies.

This FAK is nowhere close to being as high-speed or cool as Doc Simon's, Gunny's, etc. but I made it for my mom who is going to a language school in Mexico for a month. I know she doesn't have much more than the most basic first aid knowledge and this thing has to pass TSA guidelines as well, so I tried to keep it as simple but useful as possible. So here goes...



It's all packed up in a medium sized (244 cu.in.) Outdoor Products "Ultimate Dry Sacks". There is a whole thread on these somewhere and I happen to like these little bags. The entire thing is small enough to be placed in a carry-on and not take up much room. It's also nice and bright orange--could be used in case of an emergency as a signal.



Inside (in no particular order): lotsa band-aids, 1 3x3 gauze pad, 1 5x9 gauze pad, rolled gauze, anti-bac wipes, TP, Immodium AD, Ibuprofen, Benadryl equivalent cream, Bacitracin, tape, gloves (2 pair), alcohol pads, poncho, space blanket, chemlite, flashlight. Probably throw in some granola bars and such the day of the flight, but that should do at the very least--it's better than nothing.

You might be wondering where all my QuikClot and Izzys are. I made up a small individual traumatic wound kit for everyone in my group so I don't have to carry enough QC and Izzy's for a Platoon. ( I'm lazy like that) As I can afford it I will be upgrading from occlusive dressings to ACS.

Well this seems to be a good place to look at what I do not have and what I might have too much of in my medical bag. Basically, it is a small travel bag, and one you could possibly pick up anywhere for about 10 or so bucks. I had it on hand so I decided to use it. It has a shoulder harness and handle. The first aid kit is a standard kit you can get at wal-mart for about 10 or so dollars, and contains the usual stuff in it. Though since I started posting on this site I have thought about adding a book I have to it: The Zombie Survival Guide. If I could add anything else to this is would be some sort of clotting agent, but I am not sure where I would find something like that for civilian sale. That and some hemastats. Overall this thing weighs about 25 lbs. When I get a backpack (a good old ALICE pack is coming in the mail soon.) I think I will divvy up some of this stuf between packs. Wow you guys got some great looking kits! Glad I finally found this site. Some of the kits posted already are inspiring. Paragon, you got toooo much time on your hands! My pictures suck compared to yours. You could always make extra $$$ doing layout photography. Doc Simon, I hope you ran mounted ops with that beast. Work on those IV battle packs. Lil' sloppy. Vaccum packers are the shit for doing up battle packs!

TT FRB Interior; inside lid: 2 cravats, 1 OD space blanket, 2 NARP wraps, 10 HD Blk safety pins. 500ml bag Hextend vaccum packed with starter kit into a "battle Pak," 4 6" izzy dressings, 6 Dermabond vails, 4 Kerlix rolls, 3 Hemcom 4X4's, 2 nasal airways with lube, 2 ash chest seals, 2 Quick Clot sponges, Narp VS-17 panel, 1 Sam Splint, 1 NARP Combat Casualty Response Card, 1 chest decompression needle, 1 bigger bottle of purell hand sanitizer.

Small lid pocket has 6 purell wipes and 6 pair of sterile gloves.

I finally got around to taking pictures of my medical stuff and the new STOMP II. Just be forewarned that my photographic skills are not at Paragon's level, and I'm just too lazy to unpack everything right now.

Disclaimer: I am fully aware of the fact that not everything in this kit is legal to use. I have a reasonable amount of medical experince and I gain more everyday, but I am not legally qualified to use everything here. I'm a pre-med student, so I am getting all the training I can. This kit is designed for total SHTF, PAW, civil war, or zombie attack. I have no plans to use it unless the world is coming to an end.


I'll start off with my IFAK which stays in my glovebox when it's not attached to my interceptor vest. It's pretty much the standard issue Army FAK, but I added a needle for tension pneumothorax, Celox, and a Z-PAK. I'm going to add an ACS as well, but my order hasn't arrived yet.
