The Woods Walker Thread.

Postby Seanwins » Wed Mar 19, 2008 10:00 pm

I think we can all agree that Woods Walker makes excellent write-ups and generally contributes to ZS in a way that few other people do. His posts are generally packed with useful, real-world test results of equipment many of us salivate over.

All the time people are saying, "You should do a search because IIRC Woods Walker wrote an excellent review of (insert essential survival item here) a while ago." So, I thought it would be a good idea to compile links to some of his better posts in this thread so that we don't always have to hunt for them. If you agree, please do a little searching and post the links here. I will update the first post to contain all of the results.

Thanks!

kiss-ass...

J/K. I respect his opinion because he backs up his recommendations with actual real world testing and pretty pictures. He doesn't just add a Wikipedia link (like I do all the time!).

Woods Walker is the man and he always post very informational subjects for all of us. I like this thread and will try and find some things of WW to contribute.

Great thread Sean! I agree with everyone else that WW kicks ass and this thread will be helpful. What it's missing is some of this:

We know how you feel about WW Sean. It's ok.

Wow I am taken back by this. I have to be honest and tell everyone I am no real expert on anything. But I do like to report on gear that works for me. Anyways I will be back on the AT this weekend and plain on doing some gear reviews. Taking the Ti-goat roll-up stove and will do a review for those looking for the lightest possible tent heating solution. I think a copy can be made with Stainless Shim stock. I am considering doing a comprehensive review of my Paratipi. A great shelter that has kept me warm in some bad conditions. Still at 500 bucks it is pricy.

Also compiled some info and photos on the AT for a possible ZS feed article. It could make an alternative bug-out route for those looking to go north or south in the East coast off the grid so to speak. Lean-to shelters, outhouses, foot bridges and hand pumped water is just the kind of facilities that might be worth consideration. Lower tech facilities could prove more reliable for someone looking to cover a ground in a Bug-out. If anyone in ZS feed land is interested in such an article fire me a PM and I will work on it this week. I have only done about 150 miles of the trail in 3 states the knowledge posted maybe more limited than someone who did the whole thing.

I think that's exactly why most of us appreciate your reviews - they're more along the lines of "How well does this product work for the average guy on a camping trip?" As opposed to the magazines/websites that are "How does this product work for our ex- Army Ranger/survival guru/professional backcountry guide with 20+ years experience?"

Keep up the good work :)

Nice work Seanwins!

And props to WindWalker of course. What I like most about your threads is that you always add photos which bring a nice balance of reality to it.
