Sometimes black gear is a blessing.

Might be marginally NSFW.

MrAcheson:

I'm afraid we're going to have to disagree. Black does blend well with everything, especially in diminished light. In broad daylight in my AO you'd be hard pressed to find any pattern that would hide you well in daylight.

Social camouflage is just as important, if not more, than physical camouflage, especially in an urban environment. There are countless objects in a city that are black, take a look at a parking lot and tell me how much black you see. Because this is based on a zombie theory anyway, we're not entirely sure even IF they have any visual acuity. Regarding staying in cities being foolish, you're right, eventually supplies dry up. Then do you know where you are? Same position you'd be in the woods, except you have ready-built and extremely stable and defensible structures to occupy. However this is not the topic of this thread.

Black is black is more for work, I do have to wear my kit to work every day and looking professional is important. For survival everything will fade, get dirty, or be spray painted anyway.

And if you're serious about the camouflage factor, effective use of cover and concealment is way way way more important than the color of your gear, unless all your gear is flaming neon colors with glowsticks attached.

I think I am going to have to vote for black gear on this one. Almost all my stuff is tac black. Namely: a set of black ACU style fatigues. Black IBA vest (hard as heel to find), black BDS sub-load, black BDS drop leg holster, black Altamas, black shooting gloves, black guns, black radio etc. One up side to black is in a SHTF scenario; it looks really “official” if you have legit equipment. So you may be questioned less. Another up side is that I wore all of it to a apocalypse party last weekend at a club and totally won! Yay for cool gear!

Personally, I could give a Rat's Ass about what color someone's gear is. At least they've got gear and that shows some forethought.

My problem is that I don't think I'd want to be confused with a cop or soldier. Depending on the circumstances it could go several ways. Several of those ways end badly. Even in a total shitslide scenario there are laws and impersonation of an officer/soldier is against them. I just think that this little tidbit bears repeating, ad nauseum if necessary.

Lets just face facts, Black gear looks really cool when your posing for publicity shots. I mean how else would civilians be able to recognize ZS members if they all wore polyglot uniforms. To quote Robin Williams,"if your going to fight,CLASH"

Lets see? (looking at Closet)

Marpat woodland and urban.
Woodland
Tigerstripe
Urban Tigerstripe
ACU
Some Brit green Disruptive pattern.
OD green lots of OD green (its the best generic neutral color) Blends well pretty much everywhere, and is a good base for addaptive cammo additions. Add some folage, get it a little dirty and its good to go. Or for urban prepaw throw on a Hawaiian shirt and your are good to go. If its urban PAW then just get dusty with local dirt and cement/brick dust and you are good to go.

As far as load bearing and such. Mostly OD green. I have some in black too.

I just realized that most of my outdoor stuff is OD and brown. I have some navy blue BDU pants too. I need a new color, something that says, 'BAZANG!'

I've got some MARPAT woodland, some tiger stripe, and a couple multicam pants. I used to buy camo BDU pants like crazy, but then I realized that maybe wearing camo ALL the time made me look crazy. I still wear camo pants sometimes, but I definitely like the subdued, yet not so hostile look of solid earth tones.

I still wear my multicam ballcap, w/ ZS patch. Its so sunbleached and sweaty that its becoming a solid earth tone too =P
