This thread is oozing with win, as predicted.
Just had a question: If you had a barrel type container, like a pot or keg, would it be better to have the stove upright with a flat surface on top, or horizontal?
It seems like a lot of these cylindrical stoves are horizontal. Is there a particular reason for doing it that way as opposed to upright? Pro and cons?

you know i thought of turning the pot on end wit the flat surface on top it would be better for cooking on but i was afraid that wit a top loaded stove that ther might be more of a chance of sparks escaping and damaging my tent since the tent material is light weight nylon..this way when the stove is on its side the sparks would hit the roof of the stove and be drafted on out the pipe rather than hitting an opening from being top loaded and going right on out of the stove and in the tent. BUT then again you might be on to something there!! mabe turn cylinder stove on end and cut the door in the side wall of cylinder and put pipe on top
