Tiny Little FAK.

I have been working on posting my FAK for the 72-hour BOB but first I wanted to post my tinny little FAK. I take this on day hikes and short trips. Everything must be able to fit inside this little pull-out. This is small and not meant to replace a larger FAK. Just something that is very small and light weight.








1. Roll of gauze.
2. Chap stick
3. 4 cough drops
4. 12 tabs Rolaids
5. 11 tabs Imodium AD.
6. 3 tabs Gas-X
7. 6 tabs Benadryl
8. 4 tabs Tylenol
9. Povidone-Iodine Ointment packet
10. Neomycin packet
11. 8 Alcohol swabs
12. 2 Moist Towelettes
13. 2 Benzalkonium Chloride Towelettes
14. Sting relief pad
15. Tweezers
16. 2 safety pins
17. 20 Aspirin
18. 20 Advil
19. 4 3x3 gauze pads
20. 1 2x2 gauze pads. Update total now 5
21. Deep woods off towelette
22. 3 strips 4 5/8 x 3 3/8 Moleskin padding
23. QR stop bleeding powder packet
24. Small tube of Liquid Bandage 10 applications
25. 5 swabs
26. 3 corn pads
27. 2 Callus Cushions
28. Small roll of medical tape
29. 19 Band-aid sized from very large to small with preference to larger sizes.
30. 5 sutures type bandage
31. UPDATE: Two 2x2 gauze sponges.


I think everything is properly listed. I don’t really have anymore room for additional items. Maybe I can squeeze in a pair of those medical gloves. Have a box of them around some place. I gave up on those little packets of Advil and Aspirin. Got too expensive to replace as they are always used up by friends. I tend not to use any of that stuff unless real sick or hurt and even than it has to be ugly. If anyone has any suggestions I am all ears but keep in mind that all items must fit inside that little pull out.

I would recommend a medical needle in a individual tiny plastic sanitary tube, you can pick em up most anywhere in packs of 10. And medical thread. For deep splinters and to sew up any wounds if needed.

I like the idea. Sounds small too. I would mostly go to the ER for stitches etc but one never knows. When you say available any place can I find this in a pharmacy etc.

Do you have CVS? because i know for a fact they carry them in a little kit. And you say you would go to the ER, what if....there is no ER.

Looks like a good kit. You could probably pare it down even more if you needed to. The things that get used most often in my emergency kits:

Tweezers
splinter removers
advil

Other things which are really handy:

Asprin (heart attack, pain relief)
Benadryl (bad-alergic reactions, sleep aid)
Immodium (nothing worse than dehydration)
Hand-clean jel (you can shower if you smell bad with it)
Ephedrine/guiafensen cold medicine

I would pack 2 gauze rollers instead of the quick-stitches. If someone gets a bad wound, keep it clean, and keep the pressure on until the bleeding stops, don't stitch until it's been cleaned. The goal of the tiny FAK is to get you back to a real FAK. I don't know how many of those $5 walmart kits I've burned through because all the splinter removers and advil got used up.

Also: if you really want completeness, CPR face shield. God forbid you ever have to give someone CPR, you will be so much happier if you have one of these.

I could not find the medical needle and thread at my local CVS or any large chain drug store in my area.

I tried to fit another roll of gauze in the tiny little FAK but it just wouldn’t fit. However I was able to add four 2x2 gauze pads and two 2x2 gauze sponges.

Woods add some metal tweezers and some real tape. The tape you have is pretty crappy (tried to use it on a finger and couldn't get it to stick).

Other than that, for your size restrictions, looks very good. Good job on the meds.

I have metal tweezers. Hard to see as they are inside the tube with the safety pins. Good to know about the tape. I will look for a small roll of the waterproof tape.

Is it too big in width or bulk? (I have 3m tape, it's more curiosty than anything)

Great little kit. I made something like this myself a while ago, though I decided to drop meds as my kit is tooled against damages.

This is an excellent post WW. I know this is a bit of a necropost, but has your FAK changed at all given the 2 years of time for change?
