Sounds like a bad time to be an Atlanta resident. Hearing from tons of sources that Atlanta PD suffered mass walk-outs, call in's, and that mutal aid requests went unanswered.....anyone from down that way that can respond? I have a SC LEO friend who has a GA LEO friend that said it's pretty much the case....

As is typical for 2020 there are denials and "clarifications" over this matter. The truth is likely somewhere in between the extremes.
“This is not an organized thing, it’s not a blue flu, it’s not a strike, it’s nothing like that. What it actually is, is officers protesting that they’ve had enough and they don’t want to deal with it any longer,” he said.

In an interview with the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Champion added that “there are officers saying they are not going to leave the precinct unless to help another officer. Some are walking off and sitting in their personal vehicles.”

The Atlanta Police Department released a statement after Champion’s comments, calling claims that officers were walking off the job “inaccurate.”

“The department is experiencing a higher than usual number of call outs with the incoming shift,” the police explained. “We have enough resources to maintain operations & remain able to respond to incidents.”

BTW I live in a metro area with a dysfunctional LEO response due to previous intentional "defunding". I cannot recommend the approach NOLA took.
That said YMMV.

If you live in an area with such a walkoff you should be prepared for a rapid uptick in minor/major criminal activity (like snatch & grab thefts, mugging and assaults with thefts) most of which can be deterred with an increase in physical security (locks, barriers, ...razor tape) and a visible security presence. The other aspect is the thugs are more likely to be aggressive & belligerent. One of the things I did was increase CCTV cameras. They did not deter crime. They do however allow you to document the incidents to protect employees from claims by the belligerent thugs.

What I read, shouldn't be anyone calling the police now.

I think, that of course, they're going to say everything is fine, nothing to see there.....

Honestly, I'd be more likely to bug out with something like this or CHAZ, than an actual disaster.....because they'd be no defending yourself or your stuff

APD is now offering a $500 bonus for 'stress".

https://www.fox5atlanta.com/news/every- ... -500-bonus

Given the current events, don't think that is near enough to keep folks on the job.

AS the Beatles once noted Money can't buy me love ...nor will it buy improved morale.

APD is doing no such thing.
Every officer of the Atlanta Police Department will receive a $500 bonus Thursday paid for by the Atlanta Police Foundation, the organization confirmed to FOX 5.

That open offer to the members of the APD to come fill open PD positions in a nearby county is IMO something that is could be compelling to members of the APD. Honestly I would not be surprised if Coweta fills these open positions very quickly with APD.

Not exactly on topic but close enough ...I hope... I have read unconfirmed (rumors) of the NYPD staging a similar event.

I will point out that 4th of July is like the Super Bowl from a policing standpoint. Lots and lots and lots of drunk and drugged up people, outdoors, at large gatherings, often with illegal fireworks in cities, then you have parades, legal fireworks shows, festivals, it goes on and on.

Well related to the thread: The city and its citizens want safety but in the case with NYPD, there is no clear cut method to acheive that goal. After all, the NYPD no longer has a plainclothes/undercover unit ro properly investigate... well, anything.

Don't be silly. Not all citizens want safety, I mean you would think they would.... Good candidate for Not the Onion, I LOL'd:

https://www.foxnews.com/us/minneapolis- ... orge-floyd
Another resident, Mitchell Erickson, said he regretted calling 911 when two black teenagers cornered him a block away from his home, held a gun to his chest and demanded his car keys. Erickson said he mistakenly handed over his house keys, and the frustrated teens left him only to steal another car a few blocks away.

“Been thinking more about it,” Erickson said in a text message to a reporter. “I regret calling the police. It was my instinct but I wish it hadn’t been. I put those boys in danger of death by calling the cops.”
:clownshoes:

So armed robbery is ok. Just give them your stuff and go about your business. The article is just full of gems. I wonder how long it will be before the people realize that they have been swindled and what the true nature of all crime is? They seem slow learners so it might be a while.
