TTAG - Walmart Really Is Dumping Ammo at Fire-Sale Prices

Yesterday, that evil Travis Pike posted a deal alert. Walmart, he wrote, is dumping their handgun and evil black rifle ammo nationally at fire-sale prices. It sounded almost too good to be true. 500 rounds of 9mm for $45? Defensive ammo for $5 per box?

Well folks, it’s true.

When was the last time you saw .38 Special for $11 per 100-round box? Or Federal .223 ammo for $150/1000?

I might need to go check out the Walmarts in my AO. I snagged a couple 200 round boxes of Federal 9mm fmj for 30 bucks a box as well as a 50 round box of the aluminum cased stuff for 7 bucks a few weeks back.

I'm now curious if the local Walmart still has any of the premium defensive ammo in stock or if they're pretty well cleaned out by now. They didn't have much left for 5.56 or .223 ammo the last time I was in there, so they might be out of the good stuff by now too.

Lol!!! I'll let her know. She -said- she wanted a suitcase. All I heard was "if they don't have pistol ammo, at least bring home some good rifle ammo! Don't want to waste a trip!"

If my local Walmart doesn't have any good ammo left, I may just pick up some .22lr instead.

I've been meaning to replace the two bricks of it I traded for that Arisaka I mentioned a couple F/A Chats ago anyway.

ETA: Stopped by my local Walmart today and managed to pick up a single box of Remington UMC 9mm hollowpoints for 15 bucks.

They had plenty of .40 S&W and .32 ACP, though.

I'm going to try the Super Walmart in New Mexico next week and see if I can't get some more ammo for my AK or my AR.

Some jerk beat me to all the 5.56/223 at Walmart and cleaned them out buying 57 boxes. The only thing that they had left that I shoot that was on clearance was 40&45, so I bought all that. I managed to acquire:

40S&W - 650 rounds of FMJ, 50 rounds of JHP
45ACP - 350 rounds of JHP, 250 rounds of FMJ

for $243 OTD. All brass cased major US factory ammo. I figure just the JHP would run around $150.

Not too shabby although I don't shoot much of either caliber these days. All they had left in hand gun after that was 25ACP. They were also selling Tula 7.62X39 for $7 a box, which was their "clearance" price. I can get that price at the LGS.

I'm hoping the Super Walmart in Hobbs, New Mexico (which is like an hour west of me) still has some .223 Remington.

Last time I was in there, I counted at least 100 boxes of the green and white boxes Remington UMC stuff. It's probably crap ammo, but it should be good for plinking if nothing else.

I think they also had some of the 40 round count boxes of Tula 7.62x39 for around 10 bucks a box. They might be out by now, but it can't hurt to check anyway.

I just found out the foldar is a thing, and kinda want one; I guiltily love gimmicky things. Not $1,400 worth, though, at least at the moment. I do wonder how well a PCC conversion kit might work, though.

Somewhat relatedly, bufferless BCGs are soon to come out, and I'm curious to see how they end up actually working. At $400 I don't think I'd ever actually own one (sorry, Evolution Weapon Systems), but it could be neat.

I think for 400 bucks, I could probably build another AR or at least be pretty close. Especially if I get an upper from PSA along with a complete lower whenever they have their sales.

Yup. Either it'll go down in price after the early adopters get theirs, or someone'll figure out a patent-friendly workaround to sell cheaper.

I mean, there are people that are perfectly happy to pay $2000+ for ARs which, to me, don't seem to have anything to warrant the additional cost (my most expensive firearm cost less than that total: gun, glass, case, and accoutrements). That kinda person would probably happily pay $250 or whatever for a LAW Tactical folding stock adapter and the EWS bufferless BCG.

I guess with a bit of tinkering, though, you could fit a really thorough cleaning/maintenance kit in an ARs empty buffer tube. So, there's that?

That AR of mine you saw came in just about right at $400. The lower was a gift but stripped lowers can be had for $40, my PSA upper (complete with BCG) was $324 and the kit to finish the lower was $40.

ETA: The Walmart in Fulton, KY that I went to today was down to two 20 rnd boxes of .45 ACP JHP for $17.38ea and about a dozen boxes of .224 Valkyrie for $9ea

Depending on finances next year, I might try to build myself an AR. PSA keeps sending me emails with their sales and hopefully I can take advantage of at least one next year.

Well, there's a bunch of coffee grounds and grease clogging my drain line (based on what I've pulled out with my drain auger), in addition to miscellaneous buildup (I run some buildup remover twice a year, Jan and Aug). Since I don't drink coffee, put grease in a can, and my parents were here a couple weeks ago I suspect there's a correlation <cough>mom</cough>.

To be fair, the plumber that did this house was kind of an idiot: there's only one inspection port, and it's where the line comes out of the house. This would probably be far easier if I had a few more ports to work from. A few other things as well; nothing catastrophic or against code, but pretty major annoyances.

Wouldn't too much Taco Hell have the opposite effect of clogging things up?
