FORUM UPGRADE

To Everyone:

The forums are back up but we're going to upgrade to PHPBB 3.2 and get off this old-ass version we've had for too long.

Everyone is getting moved to the default PHPBB style, Prosilver, and if we can easily install some other themes after the upgrade, we will, but a bunch of these are way deprecated and dont work anymore, including subsilver2.

Anyway, forums will be up and down while we do the upgrades.

Sorry the outage took so long, the hack went in while everyone with access to the website was at Z-Con, and I happened to come back early with a mostly amputated pinky finger (dumb story) and all I could manage to do in a splint was turn off the web services until other people could get back and recover from z-con.

We're on it now though.

The finger is still broken and there's like 20 stitches in it, so it's all splinted up. I'll post next week when all my available forum time isnt spent administering.


Enough about the finger though, is anyone having forum problems post upgrade?

Cool! One other thing you may have noticed was that new users now have to get posts approved before they show up, which should further reduce the visible spam the board gets.

I'm not sure how many posts to do that to them for though, we'll have to twiddle the number to find the sweet spot.

On my old system we settled on ten posts. It worked for us but every system is different.

I Mod an Internet Brands forum. The only new member posts that required moderator approval are posts with links/pictures for the first five posts.

I like the 5-10 number, provided Mods are available to approve. If we ever find a way to get more traffic here, that might become burdensome, but easily reviewable if/when that happens.

I never ban without just cause or reason, so as long as you do nothing "ban worthy" you have nothing to worry about from me. Likely the worst I'd do is put you back on "ignore".
