ENOK'S B.O.B and E.D.C.

Postby ENOK » Thu Aug 16, 2012 11:09 pm

I haven't posted on here in a really long time, and I have never posted my b.o.b. or e.d.c. I was repacking them today so I thought I'd take some pictures. Please let me know what you think, also I will be listing items that are not pictured and future items I do not own yet which seems to be a never ending list lol. BTW sorry for the crappy quality photos.
Anyway here we go. First my pocket dump. This is my carry when I am not at work.
Image
It doesn't change much when I am at work, but here you go.
Image
G-shock watch, black cobra stitch paracord bracelet, t-mobile galaxy s2, 'Wisconsin Explorers' carabiner with keys and tiny flashlight from target (just like the streamlight, works great and it was $2), truck keys with paracord keyfob, cardholder, money clip, cheap mtech tanto, pilot g2 pen, oakley gas cans, field notebook, HID card.
WANT TO ADD: Leatherman Wingman, and 5.11 ATAC L2 flashlight.
WANT TO REPLACE: folding knife to a kershaw cryo.

Okay now on to my E.D.C bag
Image
Its a cheaper replica from an army surplus but I have had it for almost 2 years with no issues. Replaced the zipper pulls with neon green paracord and added the green paracord to internal zipper pocket for easy view.
Image
FRONT POCKET: skull candy earbuds, husky screwdriver set, bic lighter, ear plugs, bandana, red and blue uniball, KRINK marker, shooting glasses, small store bought F.A.K, added a few more bandaids, a couple of masks, and safety pins. also victronix S.A.K.
Image
TOP FRONT POCKET: contact solution, contact case, and rewetting drops. Usually have extra contacts but I need to get more.
Image
MIDDLE POCKET: Samsung netbook, charger, cell phone wall charger, car charger (sometimes I use the work truck and need to charge my phone), and a micro SD adapter.
Image
MAIN POCKET and internal zipper pocket: Sketchbook, 2 extra field notebooks, work handbook, wet ones, kleenex, powerbar, 3 natures valley bars, Tylenol, feminine hygiene wipes (YES I AM A GIRL  ), 5 tampons, hand sanitizer, and deodorant.
oh and I almost forgot...
Image
my nalgene which sits in the main compartment of the bag or gets clipped to the outside.
WANT TO ADD: Wisps toothbrushes, socks and underwear (I usually have them in there but not right now apparently), extra cash, bus routes, city map, USB with important documents (still deciding if its worth it), packable rain jacket, emergency radio, cell phone 'quick' charger, small (keychain size) prybar, duct tape wrapped card, antacids, pocket reference book, extra batteries, and thinking about a battery operate glow stick. ALSO: I work as a security guard and where I work they use 100% concentrate ammonia for their refrigiration systems does anyone no of a respirator that can withstand that in case of a chem spill?!
WANT TO UPGRADE: the pack itself I like the maxpediton pygmy falcon 2 in royal blue, or the 5.11 12 or 24 bags.

and the B.O.B
Image
this one is from LAPoliceGear I know a lot of people don'e like it but I've taken it hunting and camping for a couple of years now and its still like new no problems at all.

Image
Food in stuff sack: 3 pasta sides, in baggy there is oatmeal, hot chocolate, salt and pepper. (I KNOW I NEED MORE FOOD), spork and knife set, coleman cookset, canteen with cup.
Image
Random stuff sack: this is kind of my junk drawer that hasn't been sorted yet. zipties, fishing kit, wire, lashing straps, duct tape card.
FRONT BOTTOM POCKET
Image
emergency poncho, note pad, signal mirror, tissue, 12 hour glowstick (need to get a few more I used them all), vaseline soaked cotton balls in film canister x2, compass, left over paracord (not sure on the length), sunglasses 'leash', sharpie, bug spray, matches in waterproof canister, clamp on headlamp, flint and steel, and a go girl.

Image
this stuff is distributed throughout the pack where it makes the most sense to me and where it fits
tarp with tarp clips, mechanics gloves, leg straps for LMF, gerber lmf, strap cutter, MSR water filter (also in the bag is a canvas large debris filter), Leatherman charge with bit set, carabiner, garmin etrex gps.
THINGS NOT PICTURED
Kelty Arcadia 2 tent (love this tent), Thermarest Sleeping Mat, cheapo sleeping bag.
There are a lot of things I need to add and replace in this pack like a hydration bladder, and upgrade the clothes for example. It will all come over time but I could use your guys input please.
Also I carry this with me as often as I can
Image
Ruger SRC9 with a 10 round clip, it also has a 17 round clip. I carry it either in a shoulder holster, or my uncle mikes IWB holster. When I get home its sits in my night stand where also have 100 rounds packed in plano ammo boxes to be thrown in the B.O.B.

Nice set up, light weight, and you have the basics covered. The only thing I would suggest adding to your food is some more portine. I see a lot of quick burning carbs. The portine would last longer in your system and the increase in metabolic rate to process it will help you keep warm on colder nights that you might have to spend under your tarp.
I prep by one simple rule. I'd rather have it and not need it then need it and not have it.

How are you staying warm at night? I don't see a sleeping bag or really any warm clothing. And your in WI right? Otherwise it's a great summer bag for a short BO. How many days of food do you have there? 1-2 perhaps?

I'd at least add a sleeping bag and more food.

I have a sleeping bag and backpacking tent..just don't have pictures. I also have some cold weather gear which is currently packed with my hunting gear, just don't have doubles yet to get all my kits fully packed all the time. And I'd like this pack to last 72 hrs. I know I need more food. Looking to make some home made MRE's.

I'm going to go for making my own mre's too. I bought a case and they are just to heavy and bulky. Wish I had started from scratch. But they will pull double duty for home use.

they are bulky and I like the idea of more variety and I think I could do it and save some money too. I'm going to buy a foodsaver soon and start putting them together.

MRE's are bulky and heavy. You can field strip them and get rid of the bulk, however wet, ready to eat food is still wet and heavy. There are any number of varieties of alternatives depending on what your criteria are for weight and palatability (among others) are. I would remind you too that in a big out situation, living in a tent, exposed to weather, is going to up your caloric needs. Stress and fear, natural though they may be, will compound those needs. Just some things to keep in mind when you start considering food. Depending on the amount of effort you want to expend in regard to food, I would suggest some of the backpackers books. A dehydrator, vacuum sealer, marker, and the will and discipline to use and rotate stock and you can eat quite well assuming you have access to water. How much water can you jug and carry with your kit?
By all means, give peace a chance, in the event it doesn't work out I'll cover you.

Just two things I can see that may need consideration. You listed a sweatshirt, even though it is just a generic term, it makes me think of cotton. Unsure of the material that you have but I feel a synthetic would be superior for that application if that is not already what you have. You also have Vaseline in your hygiene kit, if it is primarily being used as an anti-chafing agent, again making assumptions here, a product called body glide is superior in that application. I never even heard of the stuff 'till I dated this marathon runner once and I wished I knew about it while I was road marching for Uncle Sam.

the 'sweatshirt' is synthetic material, like wanna be underarmor. I have seen that body glide before, never used it, I will give it a shot. Thank you!

It's been about twenty years, but I used to work at a Farmers' Co-op that sold anhydrous ammonia fertilizer. I don't remember anything about our respirators other than they were made by MSA (Mine Safety Appliances). A call to your local Co-op telling them you work around Ammonia and wondering what they use might work for you.

Looks great! I homemade some MREs with a food sealer. Just tossed what I wanted in each meal and sealed it with the sealer and its in a nice tight package.

In mine I usually put the following:

Breakfast:
-Granola mix w/berries
-Powdered eggs or complete pancake mix
-instant hash browns
-instant coffee

Lunch:
-Ramen noodles
-packet of tuna fish
-granola bar
-green tea or other drink mix

Dinner:
-Spam packet
-Instant soup or noodles
-Instant mashed potatoes
-tea or other drink mix

In addition to the 3 day supply of the above I also carry some extra tea & drink packets as well as snacks and gum.

That’s actually a good load out ENOK; well thought out and layered with purpose. I think most here hit some good pointers. You already acknowledged you need more on the food side, but the trick is to get a balance of “ready-to-eat” verse needs hot water/instant stuff. Both have their place, but there will be times you need to eat on the go and there will be other times you want to hunker down and warm up with a hot meal.

Good selection on the SR9c; my wife picked that out last year and loves it. Magazines are a little expensive, but she has several now and enjoys using it and looking forward to CCWing it this year when she can. It’s bigger than here little Kel-Tech .380 and Bersa .380, but she’s been able to dress around it pretty well.

I didn’t see or read if you carried a good LED flashlight, but I’ve found it important enough to add to my EDC and also pack an LED headlamp in my bag (along with some extra batteries). Bad things also seem to happen in the dark…at night, or in a building with the power out. Having quick access to illumination will get you to your gear and expedite your evacuation out of the hazard area. Also, setting up even a quick camp at night is much easier with a headlamp…something I would strongly recommend.

Lastly, look at adding 50+ feet of 550-cord if you haven’t already. It always comes in handy!

Very good lay out though and you’re more prepared than 99.99% of the rest of society around you; kudos.

I'll have to do that. I am only at this site for 2 more months, but a lot can happen in 2 months
