Saw these yesterday for the first time and thought they might be good for a BOB:

I've personally used the enchilada sauce at home a number of times, and it's tasty! I wonder how durable the plastic is, though? I think I'm out of the ones I had at home, else I'd smack it around a little bit. Maybe I should buy one and stick it in a freezer ziploc, carry it to and from work in my bag a few times.

Edit: And I've loved everything else I've had from Rick Bayless' Frontera Foods, so I suspect the other sauces will be good as well.

Ok, I bought a few yesterday and tossed one - inside a freezer Ziploc - into my shoulder bag that I carry to and from work. I put it in a Ziploc because I am kinda worried about it giving out and soaking my work bag with hot sauce. In theory I'm hoping to get an idea of how durable it is in a bag without actually messing up my stuff!

Weight and volume may be an issue if you want this in a BOB - the package contents are listed as weighing 8 oz.

Expiration date is printed across the top back; this one is listed as 31May2013. The bottom of the vacusealed pouch is clear, so you can get a look at whether the contents still look appealing without having to open it.

Oh, he also offers a couple mole sauces in this packaging; selection may vary at your grocery store.

For what it's worth, so far it's held up just fine in my EDC work bag (shoulder bag, professional looking) inside a quart-size freezer Ziploc. Again, I'd carry it unprotected for a better test but I'm very leery of getting enchilada sauce inside my bag! :gonk: The bag was stuffed right next to where my home and work keys hang inside the bag on short "leashes", so there were pointy metal things poking around in the area.

I can see this being a great source of both fluid and flavoring for a packet of quick-cooking rice or some other plain staple if you're carrying that, or a lot of extra flavoring and some of the fluid for a dehydrated meal. I could see popping one or two of these into a BOB for variety if you're so inclined and can spare the room/weight, or using this in a bug-in food supply.
