I'd be in for a NC/SC group buy. I'm in Asheboro, NC and my brother is in Newberry, SC...it'd give me a reason to go see him.

These are always on craigslist often times cheaper.

BUT what you must know is they are used for everything from water to toxic chemicals, you must know what they were used for before you attempt to use them for potable water

The IBC totes at Lexington Container are now $95. They got popular then jacked up all their prices. :gonk:

I've been looking for these totes in charleston and only moore barrels have them (or at least that I found) and they're $250 each. I've also looked for pickle barrels. Cheapest I found them was $20 on craigslist.

Found this on Craigslist.... in Garner NC

All my food grade barrels are $20 each. The 275 gallon containers are different prices depending upon configuration.

This 275 gallon tank ( IBC tote) is avaiable with a Galvanized Tubular Steel Cage and is available in plastic, wood and metal pallet configuration. Pricing is as follows:

Plastic 275 gallon container (no pallet/no cage) $60

Wood Pallet Configuration (with container, cage & pallet) $90

Plastic Pallet Configuration (with container, cage & pallet)$100

Metal Pallet Configuration (with container, cage & pallet) $110

Food Grade with Plastic or Metal Configuration pallet (includes cage) $125

Totes have a variety of applications and come fitted with a 2" threaded butterfly valve at the bottom. They are very easy to adapt to a garden hose application and I generally keep several of the adapter kits in stock. The top of the tank has a 6" cap. They will easily fit in a small or large pick up truck bed and are generally fairly easy to drag around when they are empty.

Can someone explain to me why wood, plastic or metal pallet would be best?

How about 50mins away ... :)

Then just travel over to Nashville and pick them up for $100. The location is Goodlettesville/Millersville exit off of the I-65. (GPS 36.347961,-86.722351) These were used in the candy making factories. Most of these were just sugar water or plain honey water. It's by far cheaper to pick them up yourself. These things measure about 40x46x48 inches. A landscaping or short trailer will do or a pickup. These will not fit in a full size van nor minivan since the height is 48 inches. No extra charge for plastic bases either. They sell the hose coupler for a mere $10 vs other places of $25.

So what is the difference between the UN and NON UN? Is one food grade (or only used for food grade storage and the other not? We have a client near Lexington, so I *might* be able to talk the company owner into bringing back whatever the trailer will hold on the backhaul

I think I may have a personal win on this. A friend's company has some older 275 gallon totes which they are willing to give me that were used to hold mineral oil.

Does anyone know what would be the best way to clean these so I can use them for water storage? Thanks in advance.

UN stored hazardous material. NoN-UN did not. Since you don't know what was in the tank a NON-UN tank would be worthless to me.

If it was medicinal grade mineral oil I would just rinse really well repeatedly. Anything you put it in it to clean the oil off would likely be worse than the oil itself. You want to make sure it gets really clean as mineral oil is a laxative.

I've found quite a few in the AZ CL ads as well in the $60-$100 range.

I was thinking hot soapy water for the first cleaning, then some plain clorox bleach with hot water for the second cleaning. I doubt its medicinal grade mineral oil.

Great deal if it wasn't a 13 hour drive

Long ago when I worked in a kitchen, I was taught that hot water diminished the effectiveness of bleach. We were only allowed to use it in cold water to disinfect things. We then rinsed with hot water to clean out the bleach.

Usually farm or gardening or something similar. Beware, because craigslist will consume you, particularly the "free" section.

I hear you on that damn free section. Thankfully there's a ton of farms in the areas surrounding my city and I think I can come up with a nice tank shortly.
