Thanks for the tip on the Finn bag, I'll let the idea marinate a while longer and consider other options.

Yup, the twig bundle is the bomb. I'm not doing one for the basic class, but that method is one of the reasons why I started carrying jute twine--stuff a wad in the bundle with a dangling end for a wick and poof. Amazing.

Ironically the family camping trip was just before the total banning of fires here. It was just a partial ban, fires had to be in an established firepit. The ban was instituted literally the day we got back. Which was supposed to be day two of our trip. Which then could have gotten me in serious trouble had I actually gotten a fire started had we stayed out both nights as originally planned. Since we were in a campground we got to use the fire ring. Sadly, my fire-fu is weak, and I couldn't get a sustaining fire with the green branches. Apparently a free campground is popular, and all the good dry stuff was already gone. I did get to try batoning with both my ASEK II and my Mora though. Gotta say, I love my mora, but any batoning I do I'll be using my ASEK II.

And I got no BCUSA fun stuff done. That was supposed to be an all day event of funness for me and my 9 year old day two. But the two year old didn't go for that whole camping thing.

And I'm still waiting for my kid to finish those crayon drawings so I can post that one!

Thanks for the vote of confidence ninja-elbow.
I was hoping to have a fire because I was going to go with the bare minimal BOB (I have 2 BOB's a bare minimal and a full on) I guess maybe the full on BOB could be considered an INCH bag but I wouldn't be comfortable calling the full on BOB an INCH bag simply because it isn't a very large bag, the 2 BOB's are the same size but the bare minimal BOB is just for those occasions when I would need to grab a bag and go and know I was coming home within a 3 day period of time. The full on BOB is geared more towards a grab and go where I know I will be gone for AT LEAST 3 days, and perhaps even a few days more than that. It is packed for a scenario that could last up to a week. INCH bags are geared more towards what it means Im NEver COMing HOME.
My area is plagued with tornados and a possibility of wildfires so I try to stay prepared for all scenarios that could take place out here in southern and southeastern colorado out here on the ranch.
But I will give it a go and see how it turns out.
Thanks again for that vote of confidence.

Alias.

I look forward to seeing part two but only if there are no shirtless ribz photos. LOL! Nice country yea got there.

Ninja_elbow.

I just got a new Zebra spoon after it went MIA. They fit nice inside smaller pots. The chow looks good! Sleep in a hammock without proper back insulation at your own peril. Insulation under you will get compressed and temps in the 50’s are more than low enough to get cold back. I find hammocks which allows a person to sleep flat very comfortable. Other types are good for a short time but become less so as the night drags on.

Bugs can bite through the bottom or sides of many hammocks resulting in a massive amount of bites on exposed skin like hands and feet if conditions are right. Just least year I forgot to take my undercover and must have been tagged 40 times on my legs overnight.

Great trip and nice trout. This MBO contest has been hard on trout. I liked that tent and country.

Yep, doing a cleanup out there this weekend. Or at least the group is, I've gotta skip out since my kids' birthday party this weekend is sucking up all my cash and can't afford the gas to get up there.

As a side note: apparently someone stole the "zombie squad" sign off of one of the two that were put up.

Still waiting for the crayola drawings for my first MBO.

Sombody jacked a DOT sign here in Tulsa.

Sorry for the links instead of pics gang. I'm still getting used to my tablet and haven't figured out how to manipulated pictures yet. Can't seem to get the photobucket resizer to work with the tablet either. One of these days maybe my CPU will make it up the "fix it" priority list.

Let me second the nice post, Woods.

Question: Did you modify your day hike kit? The set up looks a bit different. If so, show us!

Medic73.

Thanks I liked that Wood Lily the best.

Boondock.

That’s my GHB which goes in my truck. No big modifications from the Walker incident of my last entry beyond putting a plastic cup on the outside and having a second Frontier Pro straw so I wouldn’t have to open my unused one.

1. Black Bag of survival which also contains the Green bag of survival as seen before.

2. 50 feet of OD 550 paracord in a 2 strand twist with whipped cordage loop plus weight bearing carabiner.

3. Compass and UL biner on the outside.

4. 5x8 gray ID Siltarp 1.

5. UL synthetic jacket with hood.

6. Extra Wool and synthetic socks, synthetic gloves and cap.

7. Baseball type cap.

8. Garmin GPS with 2 extra sets of AAs.

9. Fenix LD10.

10. Golite poncho.

11. Platy bags and Nalgene canteens.

12. Some snacks and extra bugs spray/sunscreen.

13 Sunglass on the outside of the pack but these are mostly used to trick eye gnats.

There could be other items in there as well but off the top of my head that’s all for now. This isn't meant to camp etc out of but have made do with less in the past.

If you use it often it gets the cost down. One trip equals 500 a trip, 20 uses equals 25 a trip.

Seriously, if it makes you much more safe and comfy in a less than forgiving environment you have spent money well.

I bought a $500 sleeping bag. That's too much for a bag, right? It's a bargain after I slept very warm in 12 degrees two nights in a row. The third night was 24 and I had to unzip it halfway. Best part is the thing weighs 2 lbs!

plus 120 of it is ammo, to take and to have extra on hand for future trips, some is food for now and one other trip down the road, and the rest is gear ive been meaning to buy that will like you said last me many trips.

plus ill be by myself for four days 10-15 miles from help so it pays to by an extra bit of insurance. Do i need a collapsable bucket of EDC pouch...no but if i can filter wate easier or find a critical flashlight when i need it, then its worth it.

I didn't MBO, but I did move furniture from my old BIL to my new BIL. (I'm in the process of moving to a new house) I don't have pics of the actual moving, but I do have pics of the new place.

Back from another MBO. The heat combined with an injured foot took all the fun out of the adventure. If I moved any slower moss would have started growing on my legs. Ran into a black bear who after seeing me ran in the other direction. Guessing it was eating all the huckleberries. Going to work up a post after some rest.
