Here's one map but it's not updated yet, it's moved way too fast. Everything in the area of Flying W Ranch Rd and Wilson Rd is in flames. https://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msid=20 ... 1122&msa=0

Here's another place to keep track and maps http://inciweb.org/incident/2929/

Here is a map of the whole fire with the main effort in Blue.

They are now getting 65 MPH winds. That is simply obscene.

My friend is 2mi East of 25, basically due east of Pulpit Rock park. This is the view from her driveway. She's been packing to go.

Is I-25 expected to be an effective firebreak or is it windy enough to jump it?

Everything west and north of I-25 and Garden of the Gods has been evacuated, including Rockrimmon. Another housing area on the Air Force Academy is also being evac'd. The wind is picking up. I-25 should be a good break, but embers will fly, so anything can happen. Friends are getting large ashes in Falcon, 30 miles away.

The whole Academy has been evacuated except for cadets and needed cadre.

The Colorado Springs City Council chairman reported that his house has burned to the ground. The El Paso County Sheriff reported that his house is located in an evacuation zone and as of this morning he does not know the status of it.

A lot of city services were cancelled for the day including bus service as the buses are all needed to transport people for emergency services.

I-25 is back open but the West bound exits are all closed. I chatted with our family in Falcon. They did not see embers just a lot of smoke.

Where did you hear that the whole Academy was evac'd? As far as I know it's only the two housing areas that were evacuated, Pine Valley and Douglas Valley.

It's really smoky here this morning, and I'm out east of the city. I can't imagine how bad it is in town. gag

After living in Colorado for years, its hard to keep watching whats going on out there..

I received word yesterday that a good friends cousin lost home yesterday to the High Park fire..

The costs to battle these fires has been high, and many of the budgets have been allocated.

If anyone would like to help here is the link:

Anyone else think the Academy is in denial about receiving cadets?

I am thinking the Commandant is waiting for the President to land on AF1 and tell him to GTFO.

Gotta look tough. The military is going into drawdowns again. Any sign of weakness and less the 1000% effort and your getting cut.

I can sympathize though. Any deviation from a training schedule upsets a lot of events. A whole class and that is going to affect the training schedules for the three classes ahead of them.

I don't doubt he is waiting on the CinC to cut him and his staff some big slack. Then he looks good to the JCS. I don't think this POTUS will even be aware though.

He is going to visit COSP on Friday and talk to the Fire Fighters. That is really nice to want to visit and all but I wonder how drawing dozens of cops off to pull security AND pulling some fire fighters off to shake hands and do a photo op is going to help put out the fire.

The FBI is now coordinating multi-state efforts investigating into this being a terrorist attack. The fires would be the largest attack since 9/11 if true. If you are aware in May Al Queda released plans in Inspire on how to conduct arson attacks in National Forests. The focus was supposed to be Montana. Every state except Montana out West now has a big fire going under suspicious circumstances.

That's funny!

At the beginning of the summer I posted a thread that Al Quaida was threatening wildfires and people asked me where my tinfoil hat was and the thread died out. It was more of a ploy I was making for people to be aware of wildfires and the fact that they are a threat and still... where was my tinfoil hat?

Doesn't seem so funny now! Not at all :ohdear:

tookieblueeyes wrote:I was wondering how long it would take for terrorists to figure out we have a problem in the western United States with wildfire outbreaks and how long it would take them to capitolize on it.

This is not a political debate or subject, it is a REAL threat to many of us who live in states who are already plagued and have been by wildfires including Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, Utah, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico and California among others...

Here is the article and I hope that it goes no further than this, but it is a good reason to have a BOB ready and it should be a good reason for some of us to safeguard ourselves, our families, our pets and our homes.

But people... don't panic... just because it's in the news, doesn't mean it's a sure thing, it's just news, something to be aware of, not scared of!

Sorry somehow I posted the video I wanted to post about the fire twice. Weird when that happens.

Anyway... This fire doubled in size over night and if weather doesn't cooperate then it could double again tonight!

It's kind of scary knowing that that fire is burning so hot that it is actually creating its own weather and wind.

And it is a possibility that it was set on purpose. There have already been a rash of arson cases already and this may just be the latest arson case here in Colorado!

Looks like my worries at the beginning of the summer were not so unfounded.
