What's your family oriented prep project this week(end)? :)

Several projects. Fix some broken fence boards to secure the yard. Bought some propane tanks at Costco a while back to stockpile propane but only had two of them filled. Going to fill the rest. Clean and organize the basement instead of having everything everywhere, going to put all my relevant gear in one area. and build shelves and doors for said gear. Will take more than this weekend but its on my list for the next few weeks.

Also the NRA show is here in Saint Louis so will be checking that out for ideas and or future purchases.

Major one is to start the vegetable garden. Starting small to get some practice.

We're replacing a leaky toilet and then hiking to the beach for some bushcraft and campfire cooking practice. Might do a little fishing too if I can remember to renew my fishing licence.

Tires. I see some threads on the fronts inside. Gotta get it aligned too. I hate tire time. $150 a piece after taxes and mounting and balancing... Makes me regret getting rid of my 94 Metro. Of course gas prices do that as well.

3/4's of the garden is in, we are hoping to get the rest in this coming weekend. We are having to enlarge the garden area but we planned for that when we first enclosed the area. Thank goodness. Even my dh realized we needed a much bigger garden with the way things are.

Taking the kids tours of sustainable farms this weekend. Four farms today and four more tomorrow.

$30 per carload to see as many farms as you can this weekend. There are 27 farms to choose from.
The kids are having an AWESOME time and I'm learning a lot.

Our family project is 2-fold. We are moving into a new house with acreage,,,, and we got 3 chickens, the start of our future flock. My 10 year old will be the one to take care of the ladies and gather the eggs.

My daughters have always liked my leatherman wave, so today I let them pick their own multitool. Oldest one got a leatherman CS, my youngest got a victorinox classic in pink.
As soon as we got home, they raided my paracord stash to make lanyards. So, it is time to help with lanyards. I'm thinking box knot braid finished with a crown knot.

Hubby is cutting up the huge limbs from a 100 foot tall spruce we had cut down by a professional faller. The butt of the tree is five feet in diameter. Hubby had to clear 30 smaller trees to make a path for the big tree to be dropped into.
I was busy going through the garage and reorganizing all my work tool and shelving to make room for a new 14 cubic foot chest freezer we picked up on Friday at the SEARS Labor Day Sale.
It was good to see exactly what we have on hand in our storage area. Went to Costco today and filled in some gaps in our over the counter meds and we also stopped at the local health food supermarket.
Got organic maple syrup on sale for 17.99 a bottle instead of 32.00 a bottle. Sweet..... : )
Caught up on the house keeping and laundry to get ready for the work week.
Pulled out a few mainstay food bars to add to my work bug in bag.

Our prep projects this weekend all involve back to school for our 9 yo. Clothes, shoes, school supplies and groceries were bought on Sat and Sun. Today is about packing the backpack, In additon to lunch, agenda, notebook, pencils, etc., he's also going to take a full water bottle, FAK, flashlight, lanyard with whistle and spare house key, rain jacket, maybe a change of clothes, and an emergency card with dad's and my contact info.

In my car pack, I'll be swapping out my summer clothes for winter attire and adding more allergy medicine. I also got one of those Maxpedition EDC pouches to add some organization to the various zip loc bags. In addition, I've received some basic first-aid supplies (Kerlix, Izzy dressing, non-latex gloves, SAM splint, ACE bandage, antibiotic cream, that I ordered on line for my bug-out box. Slowly but surely, I'm getting there.

The GF's fam. is coming into town from the BOL (They live there off-grid full time.) and we're gonna can a bunch of applesauce since our tree finally decided to put out this year. We have about 25lbs of apples so far.
