The Youth Ranch has a large warehouse that sells everything by the pound. We've found clothes, knives and lots and lots of bags.

Found a Sioux-English Primer from the [US] frontier days. The cover was lampblacked and beautiful, and the book itself had instructions for teaching English to Sioux and vice versa. Bought it for $6.00 and sold it to a museum for almost $600. I probably got lowballed. True story, though.

Found a SwissGear backpack that seems to have originally sold for $200, now can be found on eBay for $80+, for $6.50. Big and roomy with lots of pockets.

Other than some genuine european beer mugs on the cheap, I got a new pair of USGI reversible light-weight gortex pants (Woodland/DCU).

On a sie note...why isn;t more camo reversible? It's the ultimate no brainer for me. You imagine having a multi-cam/tiger stripe gortex jacket???

Merrell Reflex Mid waterproof hiking boots. Like new. $15 at the local Value Village. LOVE Merrell's but can't usually afford them so I wear them until they die. (And they take a lot of abuse before they die.)

Found a small cast iron frying pan for $1 on the way out too!

Picked up a Sterno stove, a set of break apart camp silverware, and book on locating and preparing edible plants on the trail; all for about 4 bucks.

I only just recently started looking at the backpacks section at thrift stores, thanks for the reminder to check out the bedding, too.

Huge Value Village fan here too.

Probably my best score to date for myself would be this Merino wool sweater:

Icebreaker GT320 Ascent Full Zip

Retail when it was a current model was $250ish. I paid $10 for it brand new.

Second biggest score was a pair of LL Bean goretex rain pants $7 not sure what the retail on them would be, but a lot more than $7 :)

I've got tons of fleeces and Tshirts as well

Thanks! Yeah, the only thing wrong with it, is one of the attachment points on the lead came off. Replaced it with one of the one's from my automotive repair kit in 5 minutes.
