Exactly. I mean no one promted them to come out with this by accusing them or otherwise they came out and made this statement on their own

Someone posted a good map showing cannibalistic attacks recently including sightings of strange infections, it's all in the relative similar area to the big attack.

Plus if it was drugs related then wouldn't the Feds be coming out instead of the CDC.

Center for Disease Control. Cause of disease not specified. Nobody knew what the hell caused/transmitted AIDS back in the day (before the discovery of the HIV virus, anybody remember those years? Fun times...) and was still involved in figuring out what caused it. So even if it turns out to be drug related (or random horrors unrelated to each other), CDC's involvement would make sense. They've got some very sharp epidemiologists over there...

CDC is involved in any disease. They have guidelines on diseases caused by drugs and bugs (bugs being bacteria, viruses and prions). They are probably involved because the cause is purely speculation at this point.

That being said OT, if a horde of drug crazed or psychotic lunatics started roving the streets, it makes very little difference whether they are pumping blood through their veins or walking dead. I base a zombie definition on behavior, not necessarily biology. Thus why I consider ragers and the crazies zombies.

What would I do? Well we have a chapter meeting in a few hours to discuss. Without a community of support it doesn't matter...the lone wolf gets eaten.

First would be to call family/friends to get updated news and/or make them aware of the situation. (done in this case)

Second, evaluate the threat to my location.

Third...well bug in is the order of the day unless the threat is real and in my location. Bug out is extremely problematic in the middle of 110 degree summers here.

That's all I've got. Sure we have about 3-4mos of food, but we do not live in an impenetrable castle. Unprepared family lives nearby and wife and I both have healthcare jobs. We are legally responsible for our patients' welfare. Read about healthcare workers abandoning their patients during Katrina. Not good.

I hope it would be a slowly progressing disaster to give us time to put things in order. In a DOTD scenario where we wake up with zeds wandering the hood, we'd have to bug in, keep a low profile and hope for some fortunate change of circumstance.

My wife's hilarious response to the Miami incident...went to Walmart first thing in the morning and bought another 3 weeks worth of dehydrated food, 200 extra rounds of .45 (already have 1K) and an "extra" 2000rnds of .22!

I may have missed it, but I don't see where anyone has mentioned the Baltimore "cannibal" that surfaced yesterday.

Lol i bought a box of the hornady .45 acp z-max ammo. Not gonna lie its a supprisingly powerful rnd. But if shtf im going straight to my armory. Lots of heavy vehicles. We have our own in ground diesel gas tank and pump in the motorpool that we only hhave to refill about once every 2 years. Every tool you need to repair any of the vehicles. Of course enought m4s and m9s to arm aabout 400 people a few of which are equipped with m203s. An ungodly amount of mres, fallout shelter along with satcom equipment to broadcast messages to anyone who might be alive and able to make it to the armory. And if supplies ever run low there is a mall, an academy and dicks sporting goods stores, gas stations, resturants, and grocery stores all within no more than 6 miles of the armory gget a group together load up in the LMTV and roll out and still have plenty of room in the thing for all the supplies.

Depends on what you call a "zombie". If it is a reanimated corpse, that is impossible with our current understanding. If you mean a virus or other pathogen that causes zombie like behavior, that is very possible.

No, we have absolutely not been preparing for this day to come. We have not been planning for the day that a single unfortunate man gets his face eaten off by a mentally or pharmacologicaly unbalanced sociopath and the grisly photographic evidence gets released onto the internet.

Don't confuse preparation for a disaster with a desire to embrace the macabre, the tragic or the grotesquely obsene. Some people are like that, most are not.

This day caught me unprepared. It's grotesque and tragic, I am certainly appalled and I wish this sort of stuff didn't happen (and TBH worse stuff than this probably happens every day, in places further away or less covered by our media than Miami) but I do have to confess I'm sort of morbidly fascinated by it. Hence the love of zombie films.

What would be hella cool would be to hear about the victim recuperating and getting one of those edgy new face transplants. They can do that now, it'd be awesome to see the guy walking around three months from now with a completely new face. Even better if it was a face that looked out of place on his body, like if the only donor was 20 years younger or something. I'm sure he doesn't have insurance, and he's destitute, so it probably wouldn't happen without some kind of philanthropic intervention, but it would be cool if it did.

I was actually reading on the face transplant... It would cost roughly 100,000 to 200,000 and if they were to do it he would have an artificial eye which I guess isn't the same as a glass eye? Anyway, where he lived they have an "insurance" for people who can't afford health care that covers anything under 1,000,000 dollars. The doctor that was being interviewed said they are waiting to see how he is in a few days, and then they will decide. Pretty interesting stuff, if I wasn't on my phone I would find the link.

Well that depends on what your definition of a zombie is. If you define it as a reanimated corpse well that remains to be seen, our body can repair dead cells so whos to say a virus or otherr infection couldnt do the same thing to the brain? Could be possible, but if you define it as a person who has devolved to its base instinct by the cause of some virus then i disagree, a zombie in fact could be defined by a feral human something like an animal with rabies. The virus that would cause this sort of behavior could be considered an evolved or mutated form of rabies. So saying a "zombie"contingency is medically impossible i highly dissagree

http://www.zerohedge.com/news/zombie-ap ... patch-form

In the aftermath of the recent spike in Zombie Apocalypse outlier (soon to be inlier) events, which correlate nearly perfectly with the soaring expiration of unemployment extended benefits (recall: "Your EBT Card Has Been Denied": 700,000 Are About To Lose Their Extended Jobless Claims Benefits" - after all people's got to eat), it was only a matter of time before we went from this to the "ZOMBIE ATTACK: Disaster Preparedness Simulation Exercise #5 (DR5)" Courtesy of the University of Florda.

Yes, a virus such as rabies can produde aberrant and violent behavior, but I personally wouldn`t define that as a zombie. I supppose "Zombie" could be a general term for a weird enemy, such as in Dungeons and Dragons, where the "Monster" means any hostile, eg a scorpion that attacks.

As far as a decomposing cadaver, with no soul, moving and assaulting people, that would require supernatural energizement. If we see that in our lifetime, it is the end. Our shot guns wont help.

Maybe this has been written here before but my opinion regarding the CDC`s "zombie" page is that they are trying to sew the seeds of belief that a zombie outbreak could occur. Then, you cause incidents like these attacks with some strange drug. You now have an outbreak. Declare martial law and fire up the FEMA trains. As it has been said, "Dont waste a good crisis." If there is no crisis, custom create one.

By the way, this is a great site. I`m not paranoid, I`m just prepared.

I can't even remember what this thread was about, but I'm semi certain its purpose wasn't to discuss what is or isn't a zombie.

I never meant rabies would make someone act like a zombie, i meant the way our countries medical personnel like to experiment with virus and other pathogens it woulldnt supprise me if they tamper with rabies and it causes these type of symptoms in humans. But reannimating corpses with the right dumbass scientist messing with cell repair and reanimation i wouldnt be supprised if it happened. I keep an open mind toward everything within reason and lets face it if out body can produce and repair skin cells its not out of reason to think the brain and other organs could do the same thing with the right experimentation into the field. Not saying i want someone to do this but just saying it is possible. I look at everything as a possibility whether immediate or future and prepare accordingly

I will continue with my summer semester coursework, fixing up the house, and looking for deals on prep-related gear and food. I will also keep reading ZS for the most up-to-date news. (and random thoughts. They're usually quite funny)

I should pack my hiking gear again... Been sitting on my floor/couch for the past 2 weeks...
