If you need an official treasurer for our chapter and do not have anyone else in mind I would be happy to fill that position for you. As soon as I get back and situated and if myself being the treasurer is what you and other officers would like, I can set up an account for our chapter with a bank that is local and try to get that going with that.

I appreciate the offer but we actually have that covered with our officers. We just need money to put in our treasury :D

No problem I have gotten my percentage back last week for m medical retirement so it should be a week to three weeks until I get my orders then another 30 days to clear the island and I will be back in Georgia. I look forward to meeting everyone and getting involved.

Also, it's blank right now, but hopefully they'll update it soon. You can check for updates periodically http://apocalypserising.dragoncon.org/
The Apocalypse Rising track is the one that ZS is involved with. They do the Zombie Walk (which is a parade of zombies and hunters from one host hotel to another), and the Zombie Prom. The ZS folks from the founding St. Louis chapter usually do at least a few panels on preparedness and such. We're working on scheduling a meet and greet dinner with them for our chapter sometime during the Con. Details will be given as we get closer to the date.

DragonCon is a HUGE deal down here. It's frequently compared to ComiCon in California; the latter is bigger for sure but DragonCon is often considered the more "party" con of the two. There are 5 host hotels that are basically jam packed with people (especially the Marriott), over the weekend. In fact, rooms go up about a month after the last Con and sell out in about 2 hours. Also lots of celebrities in the sci-fi, fantasy, and comic world come for photo ops and signings and they do panels throughout the weekend. It's a lot of fun and possibly one of the largest events in Atlanta. Last year I think about 46,000 people attended, many if not most of them coming from outside of Atlanta.

If you Google search for pictures of DragonCon you'll find a ton of fantastic costumes. People sometimes spend all year working on costumes for this event. For me personally, DragonCon is my favorite "holiday" of the year. You have to buy a pass to attend the panels, which can be purchased for the whole weekend or for individual days and, due to the large crowds and the really bad behavior of non-Con people coming in, last year they started a policy that you can't enter the host hotels without a pass. So if you want to come out you will need to purchase a pass. In my opinion it's totally worth it and we even rent a room just to stay close to the hub the whole time.
