I know where the pic came from, and context is everything. For the type of work this gent does, where he does it, and the people he has to work with/against, that is the perfect application of first aid. The precisely correct application of first aid is the last thing on his mind. For the situation, it's perfect..... Stop the bleeding, cover it, and get back to work. Wrap it tight and get back in the fight.

OT: It's a bandaid... It may be a bit tight, but his thumb isn't purple, don't really see the problem.
The only time I really use bandaids is at work(Butcher, have to), or on blisters that have popped. Everything worse than a bandaid gets duct tape and gauze, too small to require a bandaid equals a big, tall, frosty glass of harden-the-fuck-up.

In general I do agree with this, however...

Come on people really the OP does have some good points about being aware of what we do now and how it sets up habits for PAW. While quickly cleaning with prep pad and wrapping a bandage on a cut is not a big deal, the OPs concept of pointing out there are actually better ways to deal with this injury is a good thing to point out.

I agree if this was all you had it might be a good thing to make you think, you need some antibiotic in that tin?

I had not heard about not using alcohol wipes with an open wound. Though I also rarely use them for wounds, more often to clean my hands to work on the wound than to clean a wound.

I am the type of person who usually covers a bleeding wound with cloth or paper towel for a few minutes until the blood stops before trying to fix it. Then I usually go to wash in water, etc.

I think this thread was intended to be helpful and informational but instead got into don't worry about proper first aid procedures. Slap a bandage on it is fine. Honestly this mentality seems to prove the OPs point more to me, that many people really don't care to learn about proper wound treatment and care.

A little cut on the thumb with a tight band aid and alcohol wipe is not life threatening, but a small injury like this can be helpful to demonstrate better first aid knowledge. Which is what the OP seemed to be trying.
