Ok, I went ahead and entered this as our second entry.

This entry was my family and The Machinist and his daughter.

I tried to keep my "story" shorter this time, but I'm pretty happy with it as an entry.

I still wish we had an extra day or two to re-do the fire bow Dill and some other activities we had planned to do and I could have shot more photos and some video too.

I'd like to go on yet more Bug Out Campouts. (Why yes... I am a glutton for punishment! ) I'll have to see what time off I can get and see if anyone else is interested.

We may camp again during the ARRL Field Day (Ham Radio) which is always the last full weekend in June and show using the Ham Radios while set up in the field. I can see that as a real possibility during a Bug Out because the Ham Radios can be set up and operated anywhere and could be used to gather and pass on Intel during an emergency situation.

If we do that, I'll be sure to post it her on the Bug Out Chatter Board with our call signs. It would really be cool if another Zombie Squad Ham Radio Operator and us could make contact during Field Day and both entries show photos of us talking on the radios at the same time hundreds of miles apart!

Are there any Zombie Squad Hams out there interested?, if so send me a Private Message, and let's talk!

I finished my second entry this weekend. Did something different this time. The trip was based more from my car with a zombie twist. Yea there was fishing and slept out as well but had fun with the driving part. Going to take a few days to put the video together.

Just got a trip planned with my Dad next weekend, overnighter for us pre Father's Day and lunch at my brother in law's on Sunday. My Dad does mostly motorcycle stuff now and has not slept in the dirt for over 10 years (he's 70). I'm loaning him one of my packs and I'm using my swedish frasmed ruck for this trip.

Great Zombie Summer Bugout video Woods Walker, you demonstrated exceptional observational skills and situational awareness in regards to walkers however it was not clear as to whether you were being vigilant for the rarely seen Sasquatch that lurks in those forests. I'm hoping you were keeping a lookout for the the Appalachian Sasquatch as well

I am really enjoying the Bug Out Entrys. I hope several more are posted because I thought that there would be many more by now. Winter Bugging out is much more difficult because of the cold, so Spring/Summer should have lots of folks out. Come on ZS... we can do this!

Woods Walker, I really enjoyed the video you put on your latest entry. Even if it's not real, it was very entertaining. Thanks for doing that. I liked seeing what you have in your various kits to compare with what I carry. I missed your expertise on wild edibles though.

Shulatt, It looked like your family had a great time and those kids learned a lot. Glad they knew which thing made the most dangerous track. You just can't teach 'em young enough. Glad they liked the Bannock. My kids now want us to fix it at home every few days. The good thing about that is, we get to try different recipes and we're getting better at it.

I still want to get out again, but I'm not sure when I can do it before the contest is over. I'd love to shoot some videos, but how do you post the videos? Do they post the same way the photos do or must you do something differnt? TIA

Nice Firebow and tasty looking bannock. Cooking bannock over an open fire without burning it takes some skill. Yea no wild edibles this time. I was having too much fun with the goofy video.

Nice looking water. The good old bushcraft refrigerator was my primary beer cooler for years. LOL. My only suggestion is putting that poncho tarp at more of an angle. Years ago I got flooded from a poncho tarp after water collected in the hood and let go. But on the flip side it’s hard to tell from the photo so maybe there was a pitch for drainage. Great trip and it is good to see kids getting out there.

Good move on putting that large Polly tarp over the big tent. The rain fly doesn’t look large enough and this is a common failing with shelters of that type. Nasty looking spiders. Looks like the kids had a great time. I liked the fire steel char cloth action. Also liked the bannock on a stick. That blue tail looks like a 5 lined skink we get in my state. Great looking trip.

I'm amazed at how hard it is to continuously take pictures. Also, when doing long distance hikes, time for bushcraft projects gets sidelined...

Hope to do 1-2 more trips before the deadline. We'll see how my schedule fares...

I really enjoyed your trip! I like your bag and setup. I also have the cheap wally world tarp.
Any pics of how you had it rigged for rain gear?
Also, I'd keep the hammock and ditch the tent. Hammock plus tarp is good lightweight shelter.
Also, looks like your trail buddies never heard of ultralight.

I know how difficult it can be humping a ruck with a bum ankle. Years ago, while out on one of the many FTXs for Uncle Sam (we usually stayed out an average of 300 days per year in the field), I did the same thing to my ankle. My pack weighed between 35 and 60 pounds because I had my own field gear and a fully loaded M-5 Medic's bag too. We were still about 2 weeks from getting back in and had to move an average of around 10 clicks a day (1 click = 1000 meters), but sometimes much more in varied terreign, but it was never a cake walk.

You just have to push through it, which is exacty what you did. But being that your activity was voluntary, it was probably even harder to keep on. I respect you for that.
