I've almost never met a single person who spelled Beretta properly. They allllwayss spell it Baretta or something like that. What makes me really laugh is when the same smarties complain on fan fiction sites about proper spelling and then the same accusers misspell Beretta in their own stories! Now if you really want to make someone's life annoying, force that person to attempt full pronunciations of German weapons like the MG-42 (MG = Maschinengewehr)!

And one quick question: the Finnish hunting rifle Sako, is it pronounced sock-oh? I've read so much about it but never have heard anyone utter its name.

I've heard it pronounced a couple different ways, but say-koh seems to be the most commonly used.

Yeah, I mean that one. It makes as much sense as saying "irregardful." The fact that people have been saying "drownded" for over 200 years doesn't make it correct.

Apparently, the verbal monstrosity is so hated here that a filter's been slapped on it, lest it eats someone's liver with some fava beans and a nice Chianti.

Adding the ir- prefix makes it a double negative. "Regardless" already means "without regard" due to the -less suffix, so adding the ir- to it literally changes the meaning to "without without regard." It probably came from people who couldn't tell the difference between "regardless" and "irrespective."

So is it pronounced Sig Sour?, because that's what I've always heard. I've known people to say Sig Saw-yer too.

Like we discussed earlier in the thread, German pronounciation is straightforward. the vowel combination "au" is pronounced like the "ou" in "sour", so that is as close as a text description can get us without breaking out the dictionary notations. "saw-yer" is very much not correct.
