Chantrea brings up a good point. Grandmas tend to become possessive over babies. Plus, they think they know everything because they gave YOU birth 25 some years ago. You have to lightly put them in their place. Advices are welcome, but you are the parents and YOU know better! Advices and telling you what to do are two very different things.

The only helpful tip I have is to pack some olive oil. Right after the baby is born, and the first diaper is about to be put on...slather up the baby's tush. The meconium (spelling) is like TAR, and the olive oil will really help in those first few diaper changes- epecially when its 2 am, and you are applying cold wet wipes to the tush.... Keep up the olive oil till you get real poops, then its not needed.

your kit looks good. I'd recommend adding an alarm clock of some sort. Mom is going to want to feed the baby every few hours but she needs her sleep too. She's going to be wired and exhausted all at the same time. Going to sleep will be tough but if she eh as an alarm, and knows she isn't going to sleep through a feeding, she may relax easier.

Snacks and drinks are going to come in handy too. You don't want to be running down to the cafeteria.

I'm gonna jump in here. I have nothing of value to add to the lists already given b/c it's all been covered but have you considered cooking meals ahead of time and freezing them? You guys are gonna be busy and unless you want to eat out of the microwave for a few weeks, it's never a bad idea. There are plenty of recipes that freeze very well so you can start cooking now, find a spot in your freezer then thaw after baby comes. She's going to need actual nutrition (especially if she's breast feeding) and the typical frozen/boxed/quick meal isn't going to provide that.

Just an idea.


Oh and Maalox..IF you have an issue with diaper rash at any point, it works a bit better than the typical diaper rash cream. Use a cotton ball and wipe on small tush. Works like a charm.

Something to consider is a folder with copies of documents such as, all insurance information, instructions from doctor, any kind of birth plan for the wife if she has any thing specific she wants done, copies of drivers licenses, emergency contact information.

I know we prepare for the apocalypse, but we must also be mindful of the fact that we still like in a paper driven world that LOVES to keep records and things like this make life much easier.
