.30-06 Cufflinks

Postby Chase The hero » Fri May 04, 2012 6:16 pm

I made some cufflinks a while back from some .30-06 cases i had laying around a while ago, and I figured I could share them here (since y'all would most likely appreciate this). I sometimes make these as gifts for people in the calibre of their preference (though casings smaller than .223 are too small).

So hordes of ZS, what do you think; nifty formalwear piece, or tacky gun apparel?

Beware, this picture is awfully blurry because my camera sucks and cannot focus in on things close to it.

also: the lack of a manual focus on my blackberry is annoying as hell.

As the senior gay dude here, honey, tacky. I take that back. .50 BMG would be tacky, .30-06 is...different.

As a shooter...not too shabby, especially since you make them yourself.

I'd replace the buttons on my trousers with 50 BMG buttons. Seriously.

I have no reason to wear cuff links tho, sorry.

I'd start wearing cufflinks to wear these. They would go nicely with my dark sage green with grey pinstripe suit :D

The 50 BMG jean closure is an awesome idea.

I don't often wear cufflinks, but when I have the occasion to I would most certainly wear these.

I rarely have a need for cufflinks, but when I do I can think of few that I would rather wear. Seems like they would make a great conversation piece... Or make one look like a psychotic gun nut. Either way I dig 'em.

I sent you a PM with my contact info in case you're looking to sell a pair.

.30-06 Cufflinks

Postby foghern » Sun May 13, 2012 4:14 pm

I would wear cuff links more often if I had these. If you decide to make them to sell I would definitely buy a set for myself and maybe some as gifts.

foghern: Glad you liked them, and the pictures turned out pretty nice as well.

Also (thanks to foghern)i may try my hand at making some tie tacks if anyone is interested. I figure that a smaller casing such as a .223 would work well for it.

Apparently Remington makes these too, got the ad in my email. They use 12ga, 20ga and 30-06 bits for them. Personally, I think 30-06 would be about perfect, 12ga just sounds.. ridiculously large.

yeah, 12ga would be ridiculously large. As said earlier in the thread, they would make pretty nifty suspender or jean buttons. .30-06 is just about the perfect size, though most .30 or .40 calibre brass works just fine. the last couple sets i made were using .45ACP brass and are still quite reasonably sized.

Maybe I'm hallucinating, but I remember the shell-holders for reloading .45 and 30-06 being the same.. So theoretically the 30-06 ones and .45 ones should be pretty close to the same size, right? Be interesting to have a mix and match set. Call it the USGI WWII set.
