Postby DaBird » Wed May 09, 2012 1:15 pm

A few of my favorite Smatchet type blades ;

Top to Bottom ;

A Custom ForgedInTime 13" blade thats hand forged/ground in 5160 steel
A Bark River Clax -- double edged and both sides razor sharp
A Bark River Forrester --- Single edged
A EDMF -- Single edge with a sharp top clip

Sexy. What do you do with all those smatchets? Or is it a collection for its own sake?

Hiya Jeriah ,

I mainly use the Forrester in the forest :lol: I like it because its single edged and a Bark River blade ---- if I break it , BR will fix it , for free. The double edged ones are cool but you must use care in swinging/useing them -- if you hit yourself on the shoulder , you WILL be going to the hospital --- no such a thing as a "little cut" with a Smatchet.

I've got over 300 edged weapons of all types --- I just like to collect them mainly.

Hiya B --- Yeah , at times I'll take out and do a drill etc. with a Sandata blade --- it just FREAKS OUT my neighbors -- which is kinda cool as I don't really like them much anyway and I keep a eye on them for when they start to turn Undead --- they are already brain dead so it shouldn't be a much longer wait :lol:

Smatchets are great for what they were designed for......A short sword that was easy to teach and (relatively) simple and cheap to make.
All the hilt parts are the same as was used in the older pattern British bayonets (ie not the #6 spike).
The guys (and gals) who were issued these came from all walks of life and most of them had probably never used a knife on anything more hostile then a beef joint, and so it had to use naturally instinctive moves (rather then training for instinctive movements, like a Transition from Long-arm to pistol for example).

Its light-weigh for a sword, longer most knives and out chops a hatchet....Whats not to like ?

I'd love one.....But I can't think of a good reason to have one :cry:
Do they do SOE re-enacting ???
I'm English, our Government doesn't trust us to have real guns........or decent pocket knives for that matter
Good job theres no such thing as a Trebuchet licence :D

I hope so!

<3 Smatchets too. I keep searching for the Boker made one, but haven't managed to find one at a price I was willing to pay. Is EDMF still making knives?

Ploeshare Forge has a one cool guy to deal with and pretty good prices too. I approached him re: a trench knife and ankle rig so I could be like Jimmy on Boardwalk Empire and he was totally down. Man specializes in repels of vintage supercool military stuff and bowies.

As far as Smatchets, I'm looking mighty hard at a Blackhawk Tatang for some of the same action.

Not a Smatchet. Not even close.
