ZSC016 Uniforms

Postby Bayjove » Sun Apr 29, 2012 12:33 pm

Officers were thinking it would be nice for active members to have uniforms to help us stand out more at our functions and have a "uniform" appearance. I was thinking that uniforms would be pretty expensive but I've found some pretty good prices. Thought I'd share and see what people think. This is just the shirt that I personally like as a standard ZSC016 tactical shirt, in either khaki or green. We could either do matching brand cargo pants/shorts or just have people wear a matching color pants or standard black. These shirts are good because they have room for patches and ribbons, which we could order for the chapter. I really like what ZSC025 is working on for patches and bars, where you can get bars for CERT, First Aid, service, etc. Davo rocks!

Also, though these are affordable enough to have long and short sleeve, I think us being here in the South where it's hot more than cold, the short sleeve would be fine and in winter we could wear a black long-sleeve undershirt.

Tell me what you think:

$23.99

There is another site that has them for about the same price with a better shipping price, but just posting this one so you get the idea.

Considering I've got about 10 years worth of BDU/TDU wearing under my belt (literally..) I'm going to offer this opinion, the TRU-SPEC by Atlanco 24/7 series in the 65/35 poly-cotton blend (aka: rip stop) is about the best buy for your buck. They last and hold their color (as far as the black goes.)

As far as color scheme goes I've always liked a tan shirt with od pants. Accessorise with black or green web gear. Now boots, Black or Tan Hi-Tec Magnums are perfect (actually what ever black or tan combat boots you're comfortable wearing.)

By the way I think zombies are color blind...

I'm thinking of the more law enforcement or SWAT look with the black or really dark blue cargo pants with the same color top with the breast pockets like the one on this thread already that way you can tell everyone who wears them ribbons will be worn over this pocket badges and tabs over this one etc. etc. And of course black boots but of course it is hot in the south so the I'D even cargo pants and the tan shirt with pockets would look good as well

I think we should all get OD jump suits.

But really, I think what we wear is less important than the style and color matching. If we want green, collared shirts, then that's the standard. It would be nice if we all had the same green, collared shirt, but...

Yeah, I mean uniforms are a ways off since right now the officers are struggling with even coming up with money for operating expenses (literature printing costs, merchandise, advertising). Just thought I'd throw the idea out there for everyone to ponder for the future.

I do think that whatever we decide it should be "uniform"--not just the same colors but the same actual product.

Atlanta has an existing group called the Rogue Force (or is it Atlanta Zombie Assassins?) that dresses in dark military-style uniforms. They aren't a preparedness group, but they are part of our circle. I'd prefer to have a different appearance than them and also because we do community service and are trying to get the message of preparedness out to the masses, my personal opinion is that we should appear less...threatening? lol

But that's just my 2 cents and when the time comes to decide on uniforms, members will definitely have a say.

Had a thought about the "kinder friendlier" idea... a Black silk screen logo on tan t-shirt with green BDU type pants, tan/desert/coyote belt, boots, ect.

If we did this via cafe press and made it available to members it's a way to raise funds and get every one suited up.

A lot of the events that ZS is at will already be flooded with people who dress in all black/combat boots/black T-shirt.

To stand out, keep it cheap, and allow for peoples personal style, I think silkscreened tan, olive drab, or heather grey T shirts are a wise choice. Polos can be gotten for a little more and do a lot to add to the "Professionalism" of a group.

Cufftitles, training badges, and position tabs are a great idea. However I think they might be better utilized as a pin-on badge/name tape kind of thing. People who aren't part of the group are unlikely to know what they mean and it would be a good conversation starter if they ask at events.

Anyhow thats my 2 cents.

Oh, and probably the cheapest place you'll find to order is www.impactmerch.com Ask for Travis.
They also sell a lot of zombie/band/cult movie t-shirts.

I still have my issued ones as well... BUT remember the grey man methodology.... whats going to attract more attention WTSHTF

the guys running around in BDU's or the guys that blend in a little more with the general populace?

grey man : A man who can blend in to any scene or situation without standing out , hiding his skills and qualities .

I'm with ZombieSoldier on this one, looking like a paramilitary group is perhaps not the best move, however I think we all appreciate utilitarian clothing.

I've put my vote in for OD green, Tan or heather grey.

As a man in uniform, I don't like the idea of BDUs, ACUs, or whatever military patterned or styled clothing.

Also had a thought about wearing high-vis vests for functions as they are smart things to have for disaster relief, SAR, and basically any situation when you aren't trying to avoid being seen.

I should have specified the shirt not whole battle rattle. I wear a grey one as a light jacket most of the time.

Usually with Truspec khakis and a button down. Good weapon concealment.

Hawaiian shirts. Nothing screams "not tactical" like a Hawaiian shirt. Unless you're Magnum P.I. of course.
