The mistake was not actually related to her appearance. Rather, Egan had earlier shot at a hog that continued to evade him. He reportedly instructed Simmons to stay at their campsite ("Do what I tell you, woman!") while he pursued the evasive animal, according to the Flagler County Sheriff's Office However, Simmons ventured away from the campsite, apparently searching for oranges that had fallen from nearby trees. ("But I thought you'd like some oranges with lunch!")

Sadly, he's going to pay for this one as long as they are together. I'd split the blame roughly 50/50, but she'll never admit that, had she followed simple instructions, she would not have been shot...
When Egan heard rustling in the woods, he fired in her direction without first making visual confirmation with his intended target.

Yeah, I may have neglected my backstop once or twice as a new shooter, but neglecting to ID your actual target?
He'll pay for that one...

"Oh, you don't want to visit my parents this weekend? I guess we'll stay home then. After all - I don't want you to shoot my mom and call her a pig.
Oh, did I hurt your feelings? At least I didn't shoot you and call you a pig!
Oh sorry, no, I can't make dinner tonight - last time I tried to make dinner you shot me and called me a pig!"
and etc.

That right there qualifies him for the asshat of the year award. Why is it that people who should know better (50 years old) often seem to think that the basic, elementary rules of hunting don't apply to them? You could ask my 14 year old Little Brother what the first rule is before you pull the trigger and he will tell you that it is "positiviely identify your target". Virtually every time I head of a case of someone shot while hunting it involves some cretin shooting at a sound or rustling trees without positively identifying their target. It makes me angry because this sort of inexcusable asshattery reflects negatively on us responsible hunters in the eyes of the general public. I can't believe they aren't charging him with criminal negligence or something similar clearly, what he did was far beyond an accident - accident are unavoidable, this was 100% avoidable had he not been a moron.

I mean really:BANG!

Yep. Worst excuse evar.

OK, I'll give you 99.9/0.1, but that's my final ratio!
He's a moron, and clearly at fault.
But she would have been harder to hit if she was in camp where she was told to stay...
