It's along the same lines as every other show on Discovery; take some people doing their regular job and add some dramatic situations through editing and forced scripting.

The fat guy that owns the show talks down to everyone, I'd tolerate him for about ten minutes before asking him to get the hell away from me with his pedantic speaking. Also, that guy is the KING of Chicken-Wing. I'm not sure if the USMC taught him how to put his shooting elbow as close to his noggin as possible, maybe things were different back then.

The shows production quality is, like everything else on Discovery, pure crap.

Discovery channel needs to "discover" a new format for shows I'm tired of the "WATCH IDIOTS ARGUE WHILE AT WORK" stuff.

Some of his guns look interesting but I wouldn't purchase a firearm from a guy that chicken wings and talks down to everyone.

Also, he's a LEO of some sort or another, so that doesn't get him many points from me either.

Redneck TV at it's best.

But you HAVE heard of us.

:-) Sorry brother didn't mean to be so harsh in my review...

I'm sure that Discovery makes you guys act a certain way in the show for it to be interesting. The thing is, they gear it to people that aren't that into guns. If you showed some shooting techniques each episode, or did a few minutes on safety, or anything instructive, I think it'd attract people that want to watch more than "Days of our Lives" in a gun shop.

Best of luck with the show and the business!

Foot removed from mouth

I think your review is rather spot on. I also quit watching because the quality of the show sucks. If its on and there's nothing else on, and the weather stinks, I'll watch it. Aside from that, I'm not really excited to see the show, like I am with "The Walking Dead" or "Sons of Anarchy".

Discovery really does a lot of injustice to multiple industries with these manly dramas, but they seem to be working and getting viewers. Hell, Doomsday Preppers makes 95% of the prepping community look completely nuts. We complain, but we're the minority of TV viewers. I'm guessing most of the mindless mass enjoys this crap.

They don't care about the details of the gun build, or what type of polymer the 22 bullpup kit was built out of, or what type of actuator was used to fire the remotely fired M-16's in that Porsche. They just want to watch some shit blow up and feel slightly more manly about themselves. Heck, they probably don't even actively shoot.

The shows we want and crave... they simply don't pull the viewers. I still crave a more HARDCORE zombie show. I want to see the outbreak spread from subject 0, and I want to see it with much less romantic drama than TWD displays.

Webisodes. Thankfully, indie filmmakers & enthusiasts don't require huge amounts of viewers or ratings to make their shows.

There's enough of us on here that work in the film industry I'd think to get together and make some webisodes that are more in tune with the laments above. Pity we're all so scattered tho.

I enjoy parts of the show, but not enough to watch it regularly. I'll catch it on On-Demand or a repeat every so often. I take what I see on it with a grain of salt (I do editing work as well as sound and I know how that can be done to make a harmless friendly conversation look like a blood boiling argument)

Heck, really every show out there now is basically the same thing. I realized when I watched every episode of the Soprano's one rather boring week that TV shows really aren't that interesting, they rarely provide resolution for any conflict they've created, it's just more "Hook the user for next week! Be a happy complacent consumer!" than any real character development.

Yeah... not the most sterile sound environment. That said, the sound quality on the show is pretty damn good considering. They ever have you guys come in and do ADR sessions or is it all location?

I loved the episode where they went head to head creating the perfect zombie killing guns... I loved the modified .22 they came up with... it looked awesome!

I've yet to see the zombie gun episode, which has me pissed. :x Waiting for it to show up on On Demand.

If an ADR session is like when you see the guys talking at the camera like an 'interview' then maybe. They call it being in 'interviews' where they go into this semi-sterile room where it's mostly quiet, and do stuff like this:

http://i3.ytimg.com/vi/J_uR3edxMPs/hqdefault.jpg or http://www.imgcrave.com/u/UEk5K.jpg

I guess that's an ADR?

Do they do that after the work day is over? That's gotta be fucking annoying to get pulled in there while you're trying to work.

Nah ADR is when they pull you into a totally sterile sound booth and have you watch yourself on the footage and then record you speaking. Overdubbing is another way to explain it. ADR stands for Automatic Dialogue Recording, which is kinda dumb because there's nothing automatic about it lol.

Yeah that must suck if they pull you off jobs or if you're wanting to get home and they run you into the interview room. Unless of course there's extra $$$ in it.

I *really* like that stock for the 10/22... I wish I could buy one. The "crampedness" of the stock is one of the reasons I don't care for the P90.

Well, that and the terminal performance, or rather lack thereof.

Next time I see Max I'm gonna quiz him thoroughly about that episode...

Though, why does the guy on that show insist on calling a flare launcher a "grenade" launcher? It's a 37mm FLARE LAUNCHER. They even said it once on the show... just like on the premier episode. 37mm flare launcher ≠ grenade launcher

Unless I'm mistaken, and if I am please correct me and provide links, there are no HE rounds for the 37mm flare launcher, and those were all planted explosives amongst the zombie targets. That just annoys the hell out of me for some reason...

We have a proper 40mm - they were testing it before noticing a fitting issue, then went with a shorter Havoc 37mm for poops and grins.

Dammit okay need to postpone another project so I can grab one... I just think that thing looked really cool...

Yeah, but calling it a grenade launcher long after the change was made, and then planting explosives downrange and pretending to be firing explosive rounds? bah...

EDIT: yeah, yeah, I get it, it's an entertainment program, and I shouldn't bother with technical inaccuracies... still...

Dude, it's a tv show. *shrug* Are you really that surprised?

Edit: Not demeaning Sons of Guns in particular, this was more a comment on just about every tv show nowadays.

I'd like to think that a collection of gun enthusiasts could make a show that would increase public knowledge of firearm history, use and safety rather than encouraging the "OMG A GRENADE LAUNCHER" sort.

And I am sure they would...BEFORE the production crew and TV execs got a hold of it.

You can bad mouth me and this show all you want i dont careni realy enjoy watching it and as for the zombie episode i liked the bullpup configuration best. Yes the 556 is a great round but it weighs a ton more than a .22 wich means you can carry more ammo once you run out in your 556 it becomes an expencive club i will continue to watch this show and one day hope to go down and meet the crew and make a purches from them. And from what i have ben told me and will come from the same native american indian tribe
