Posted an entry over on the contest thread. The entry was just for fun as I won't be a contestant. Early bird gets the worm so everyone head out ASAP.

What'd you use, if anything, to fry up the dandelions? I might try it, as my yard is a buffet line at the moment.

I used my bannock mix and canola oil. This time it was flour and Bisquick but is subject to change based on whatever is available.

I asked once before but no one answered my question so I guess I will ask again... Are multiple entries allowed?

Yes, they absolutely are.

You are welcome to get out into the world and test your gear and report back as many times as you would like. Whether the judges evaluate you on the whole or each entry separately, I have no idea, but don't worry about that, just go get some dirt time.

Jamoni, I loved your video! Bummer about the bike, bro. I've been thinking about getting into bikepacking... have you ever thought of starting a thread on here to share your experiences and tips in that arena? I'd love to read it!

I apologize, I didn't see that...

I will edit the rules.

It's cool to see trips posted already, I look forward to a bunch more.

jamoni: dang, nice impact. glad your OK.

Woods Walker: I'm liking the epic fishing, I made myself some beer battered weed flowers last night with some 'krusteze' and lemon pepper. a little 'ranch' on the side for dippin', it won't be the last, very tasty.

tomorrow I ditch for the high-desert.... 92 last weekend, more like 72 tomorrow, I guess summer downshifted.

sooooo,

I'm in . . . <-------- proper thread to post this comment on

photos next week.

and oh yeah... special thank's to 'rsnurkle' for posting an 'Index' of entries on the first page, her effort is appreciated. thank you.

Ok, I posted our (first?) entry for the Mock Bug Out late last night/early this morning. Time flies when you're in a writing mood!

Our entry is not what you might think about as a typical Bug Out because it involved 2 vehicles and a Pop-up Camper, but we did "Bug Out" from the cities and towns and then Bugged Out on foot FROM our Bug Out if that makes sense.

I so happy that my whole family went on this Bug Out Campout. I was able to teach my kids, especially my 2 Daughters some new Survival Skills and incorporate them into the Bug Out Entry. Our children ARE our future, so teach them well.

We're not done yet and will probably do more before the contest is over in July. I'm hoping to show them how to do even more things the next time we go out.

I'm not a judge but I'd say that sounds reasonable. After all, in a real bug out you'd probably try to drive as far as you could before going on foot.

I really enjoyed reading your Mock Bug Out. I especially liked how you involved your entire family in it for a week long excursion. Seems like it worked pretty well.

Jamoni: Another "aww man!" voice for your bike incident--here's hoping you can replace it or get something better soon. Thanks for sharing all of the little details you figured out, I think that's the most useful piece of any entry, even though I love seeing lots of pictures and videos.

WW: We should start a betting pool on how many times you'll get out during this entry period. I've never thought to fry up dandelions or eat violets, so that was a very cool episode of Wild Edibles with WoodsWalker.

I loved reading your entry for exactly this reason, what a great time to hear about. Thank you for sharing. Also, thanks for the note about smoking up a debris hut before using it. I hadn't thought of that as a solution to the bugs-in-debris-shelters problem.

I thought it was great, liked the description of how the road was secured, well thought out. debris shelter was well made and a great 'plan b' cache. good to see the kids learning skills ( they look like they were having fun at the same time )

thanks for posting.

would of loved more photos but, yeah, I know how it is to get distracted out there and focus more on what your doing rather than documenting it....

my high desert bug out:
slept in the back of my rig, started fires with a lighter, BIG cooler full of stuff....

spent three days gathering food...... only got a couple photos:

and I let em go, as I always do.

next time I'll spend a little time with the camera, when fly fishing gets good all bets are off..

Allowed? Yes
Encourged? Absolutely!

I would like to see a team entry work together. Instead of everyone having their own complete gear, pair up so one team has one stove, one water purifiction device, one tent etc.

Also a good point is there are a lot of people that don't feel comfy in the woods. The remedy is to go car camping first. You are not required to go out and forage for food in the middle of the desert for three days. If you are close to a campground but miles away from a wilderness area, I would opt for car camping too.

Also I thought it would be interesting to see someone BO with a Wally World based bag. I hunted around in the shop and found a $14 bag, a pot from a cookset, poncho, light wool blanket, and general extra odds and ends. Figured up the value and it ran about $65, with food.
I was planning a MBO with the bag but work went nuts. :x Won't be as comfy as my $1200 UL setup, but would probably be more fun and interesting.

The best thing I enjoyed in the last MBO was the landscape pics of everyones location. This country has an area of huge differences in scenery.
Don't for one minute think you can't win and don't enter. What you post may give someone inspiration or an idea to better their BOB or camping practices. I received three votes for viewers choice. Shocked the heck out of me I got some votes. Someone thought some of my stuff was cool.
The big thing is to try. My late Dad used to say "You can't fail if you don't try. " And "Most people don't learn unless they fail."
Ninja Elbow put so elequintly by saying "Get out and use your shit."

I have a Dollar Tree/Thrift Store bag packed for a MBO. Total cost at ~$25. I'm just looking for the time to get out there.

Thank you to everyone who answered my question and I look forward to getting out there to get some practice and fun in using my stuff! I will probably enter one "spring mbo" and one "summber mbo" for entries. I already have some great ideas and am all packed up, I am just waitin on the arrival of my new Ribz front pack which I am excited about getting and incorrporating into my bug out.

I already love the other entries that have already been turned in, and those are some pretty big fish! Hope I do as well on my mbo and if not... I always have pork n beans! LOL

Medic73.

I am going to check out your entry in the AM but like the camper.

Scurvy.

Those are some nice looking trout. Shit, I hoped my fish would get top billing during the contest but that’s not going to happen.

My first entry in. Fictionalized it some to turn an over-nighter with a friend into a ZPAW bug-out

Liked some of what you did on the trip--especially the pot hanger.

With the wood being that wet, I'm surprised you didn't say, screw it, and roll with the JetBoil.

Kudos on your persistence.

I said "screw it" and didn't bring it. Crystal B brougt his but I refused to use it as I have relied on mine for 5 years now. Time to shake it up and get out of my comfort zone and work a bit for my hot water :)

Sadly, no fire = no bannock. Was going to actually make a cornbread and pepper pre mix I brought wiht me. Ended up with just mashed potatoes and chicken with Tobasco sauce for dinner and pre-dinner was the sorrels and danedelion blossoms with oil and wine.
