I wish Pending really meant anything. Approved is the only thing that I care about.

Yeah, pending only means we have your money and your paperwork is at the bottom of a very tall stack of papers.

If I were president, I would make the ATF assign 200 inspectors instead of the (seven?) they have now.

Or just simplify the entire process and make it like purchasing a handgun.

Since it's the same FBI background check how about having a CCW permit be sufficient to buy NFA items. Just register them with the local sheriff, booyat.

Dropped off paper work on a 10.5" 5.56 AR-15 SBR to my sheriff. Everyone was very polite and courteous.

Next one is going to be a 10.5" Sig 556 pistol registered as a SBR once I get it off layaway.

My IA Mini-Grunt is still pending as of Nov. 4th. We're at 6 months and two weeks.

How many SBR's do you have now? In the process? Planned?

I have 2 SBRs. I have one in process. I have 2 more planned. 4 AR 15s and a Sig 556 pistol total. I have 3 cans pending. I want one more 22 can. And before anyone judges, its way cheaper than strippers or drinking in bars.

Getting somewhat annoyed here. The NFA tracker website shows that the FL examiner isn't making progress in approvals by date. My 6 month mark passes this weekend.

I'm 6 months and 2 weeks, still pending on my can. I think all stamps are going to be 7 months. At least. :|

Lame. That means I have to wait until May for my 22 can, and November for my 45acp can.

ATF: No Relief In Sight for NFA Wait Times
Posted on April 14, 2012 by Nick Leghorn
The ATF have a booth here in St. Louis, and much like the kid with pinkeye on the playground people seem to be avoiding them for the most part. I wandered over to their booth to ask them about the massive explosion in wait times for NFA paperwork and what they were doing about it, and the answer is exactly what you would expect. They see the trend as well and think it’s unacceptable that wait times are that high, but the only solution they see to the problem (hiring more people) is a long process that is still months to years away. There was no discussion of changing paperwork or digitizing anything, they simply believe that more people is the solution. In other words there’s still no relief in sight.

Just like any other federal employee. They see long wait times and bureaucracy as job security.

 You know, once I get to a place where I'm stable, not moving every 6 months and being deployed every other month, and have the disposable money to afford NFA stuff, booyat the system goes to absolute shit.

It's annoying, but I don't really see it as bullshit. The amount of work a static number of people do has increased, so it takes longer to get to it. This is just how any large company works, including governments. The fixes would be to change the management at the ATF so they focus on customer service in this area, or throw more money at them so they can hire more people to process paperwork without taking away from other programs. Both seem like they are unlikely to happen. But given the constraints on the system, it's just going to be what happens until the requests slow back down.

I've got a form 1 and a form 4 being processed at the moment. I just try to not think about it. Although the one may be coming up in the queue since I put it in back in November.

The reason it's bullshit is that ATF representatives have been quoted as saying they have no plans to hire more examiners in the near future. It's bureaucratic BS. The reorganization seems to be bent on curbing Class 3 approvals and purchases in suppressor/sbr/sbs friendly states with a high volume of sales (Florida, Texas, Arizona, etc). I know they may seem like they're trying to help, but to me it seems the real agenda is to impede the process of civilians procuring these items. I honestly don't see this slowing down with the current economic and political climate in the US, and the fact that there are more pro-gun lawyers and representatives pushing suppressor friendly laws across the nation means there will be an increasing market for them in the future.
