skeeter beater / blackbird hammock question

Postby jehicks87 » Sat Apr 14, 2012 9:06 pm

Would a usgi poncho be an adequate rainfly for a grand trunk skeeter beater or warbonnet blackbirds hammock?

I don't know about the Skeeter, but it will not work with the Warbonnet Black Bird, too short for adequate coverage, and I would not want to ride out a rainstorm with it over me.

I've tried it and it will work with the Nano-7, and I could check its fit with a GT Ultralight if that would help.

Not sure about your hammock but it doesn't work on the Hennessy ones.

I don't currently own a hammock, but am considering buying one. :)

There are lots of cheap tarps out there that will work with the hammock if that is the deal breaker for you and why you are looking to use the GI poncho. If you are looking to multi-purpose your poncho, then an extended length poncho like the one made by Jacks R Better is the best way to go.

Just because I love the GI poncho and I didn't want to have to buy a tarp if it wasn't necessary. That's all.

I bought a cheapo wal mart camping tarp for $9. It folds down pretty small. I pitch that on one end and the poncho on the other end. That gives me plenty of coverage, lets me multi-purpose my poncho, and saves a little weight and space in the pack.
Unfortunately it's bright freaking blue.
