I treated 2 pair of pants, 2 shirts, pair of socks, and my head wrap with permethrin last year..... not one chigger\tick

I also used ultrathon insect repelant, all of 2 mosquito bites all week

worked like a charm

Hmm. I just doused myself in picaridin every 30 minutes and didn't get any ticks/chiggers. I did pick up a couple of mosquito bites, but I might have had those before I got to ZCON.

Nah, just stinky yellow pee. I know the last thing anyone needs a ZCon is the "runs". I've been using this method for two decades and haven't used any insect repellant spray.

I noticed that some of my friends hardly ever got bit. I thought it may have been because some of them were smokers. Later I found out I have a severe vitamin deficiency so I'm on really high doses of everything. I've literally camped almost every weekend all my life. When I finally noticed I wasn't getting bit any more I narrowed it down to the B vitamins, specifically vitamin B1. Like I said above, I was the guy who literally got hundreds of chigger bites when everyone else got 5. - So I thought I made a huge discovery all by myself, then I looked around the internet and found out it's semi-common knowledge. It's a miracle if I don't already have Lime disease.

I've been thinking about the ticks in light of this past winter being mild. That would make me think that the mountain is going to be rotten with them. Anyway, rottener than usual.

I'm going to once again douse my person and clothes with repellant, but I'm going to try the B vitamin thing too.

I like the sig line, Beth. :)

Can't wait!

If it works we will say it was the B vitamins! Get a B complex if you can but make sure it includes B1. If you can't find a complex with B1 then just go with straight B1. Trust me, I live here and have been chewed on for over 30 years before I discovered this trick.

I'm not sure how microscopic critters are able to land on your ankle and work their way up to you crack in a matter of hours, but they do! I've never tried the tights. Should I shave my legs? :)

I got the second email and was wondering about the changes in campsite locations. I wonder if I should move farther from the group. I use a hammock and was fairly close to basecamp in 2010. I've developed a ridiculously LOUD case of snoring/sleep apnea. I don't want it to bother others.

I stole this picture from whisk.e.rebellion (s) post in the 2011 debriefing thread. It shows very clearly where the old dam used to be. The dam was above the falls and the mill was below. You can see it on the parking side of the creek. Water was guided by a wooden chute to a water wheel and mill building downstream. I have very vague memories of the ruins that were still there as a kid. This year I want to try to find the foundation of the old mill. The story goes that I was conceived on the part of the dam that still stands on the hill side. I try not to think about it on my way to basecamp. If anyone is interested I'll ask around for any old pictures of the place. - I charge extra for pictures of my conception.

no you dont have to shave your legs but there isnt anything against it.

and a quick question.. is the registration per camp sight or per person.. i.e. if i have a new girlfriend or if a friend missed out on the 60 person limit can he stay with me?

I would assume that the registration is per person.

I can't wait. Let the countdown begin.

Registration is per person; there's no "campsites" in the sense of like a campground with roads, bathrooms, and little numbered signs on parking spots with picnic tables. Think more like first-come, first-serve bits of steeply-angled sharp rocks, where you can pitch a tent or hang a hammock if you're crafty and brave.

So if your friend or lady missed the boat, they'll have to wait at home, to be regaled with your tales of glory, and admire your scars, upon your return. 8-)

See you there!

Im already signed up, paid, and going but I still wish there were more than 60 spots. Is it just a limitation of camping space?

That, the ability to keep check on everyone, and limit damage to the land, if I were to guess

Every rotation of the Earth brings me one day closer to Z-Con.

I've been working on the crystal radio seminar. I put together one of the kit radios and tried it just now, since sunset (and sunrise) are the best times. I just picked up a shortwave station (World Harvest Radio) out of South Carolina. And I heard a station in Spanish a few minutes ago - no idea where they were transmitting from.

Out in suburban Irondale, it may be tougher to get signal, especially at the times we'll be listening, but here's hoping for good reception. At least we have awesome altitude.

Can't stop the signal, Mal.

Its because its private property and if one of you turns out to be a bad drunk or a creeper or just an asshole, and theres 200 people there, it's unmanageable.

Most of you that came last year saw the CWS in all it's glory, but saw a problem with the price. I talked to Green Beetle about a group buy and they can ship 10 to me for $683. These normally cost around $80 after shipping. If I get enough interested parties in time, I can bring them to Z-Con for you or a friend. PM me with questions or if you're interested.

Yes, I know this is a bit short notice.

I'm totally bummed out that I will probably be missing this year's Zcon, but it's for a really good reason haha.

Internship starts June 5th. Barring any huge wrenches being thrown into the mix, I'll be doing that but I am holding off on canceling just in case something DOES happen I can still go.
