This, exactly. It makes absolutely no sense for either the men or the women to agree with disarming even ONE of the group. Especially now that (I think) they've got more guns than people and they just dealt with 'the swarm of the century'. Though, I guess the upside of leaving the farm is that now Lori doesn't have a kitchen to try to shove Andrea, Maggie, and Carol into and now they HAVE to learn how to defend themselves/the group like full members..

I know there are a lot of Browncoats on the forums and I'm not knocking Walking Dead at all (love the show), but hypothetically;

Would you give up season 3 (and any following seasons) for the equal number of seasons for Firefly?

In other words, if you could wave a magic wand and replace Season 3 with Season 2 of Firefly, would you do it?

What?......No Keen Eddie...?!?!?

I love me some Firefly. I respect Firefly. I have many Browncoat friends. Firefly is my favorite "sci-fi" genre show. I'm volunteering for a Browncoat festival this summer. I've thought about this for 5 minutes total. No.

6 years ago would've been a different story, but today it is a "no".

Yeah, I wouldn't take a Firefly revival now, too much has moved on. It's like that girl you locked eyes with one mystic night, glorious in that moment and will always be that "what could have been".

And what's this bullshit of corralling Summer Glau in crappy TV shows? I wanna see her in big damn movies, gorramnit!

Or, you know, that next Terminator movie you know they must be dreaming up

Wasn't it supposed to be a "magic fire" that would "magically" kickstart Firefly as if it never stopped if we sacrificed TWD, etc to it's "magical flames" ?

I ain't in at all if that guy from Castle is playing Captain Tightpants. I want the last two seasons of TWD and the last season of Dark Angel back then in that case.

Oh, if it was magic time-warp fire that did it, I'd go for it... but not a replace what you've seen of TWD and go all Browncoat again after 8 years in the black. Time heals old wounds.

I'm still bummin' over Deadwood. :(

Half empty bag of peanuts?

I lament the passing of Firefly, but I don't think it would be out of the spectrum of possible things that once Whedon is done with the comic book movies that there isn't room for another Serenity movie.... True, Wash and Shepherd Book are gone, but the rest of the cast have not exactly diminished with time...

As I recall a popular show was killed off in the late sixties and a dozen years later they made the first of over 10 films, a updated show in the same universe, but with new characters, a spinoff, another spinoff, a prequel spinoff, and a big screen reboot that actually was pretty good...

Mebbe time will catch up to Firefly in something similar... After all, Serenity is still playing year after years, and Browncoats still admit proudly to the color of their coats...

Hell, if Shatner can do it...

Image
Shatner...Canadian actor, known for both behaving in complete caricature of his iconic image, Had great sci fi show, cancelled to damn quick, did good for a while in bad cop show (T. J. Hooker) and had a slew of very commercial film versions of said show... Millions of fans grew so enamored to a show that in many cases aired before they were even born...
Is often used in popular culture, most obvious in Big Bang Theory and others...
Scientists love to point to the cell phone as directly descendent from the shows influence... (warp speed is still debated)
Which is really amazing, as the fandom is known for it's inability to gain any traction with the opposite sex...

Image
Fillian... Canadian actor, known for behaving as completely un-lookitmee, I'm an Ass...actor, and still greets fans with a far more restrained (I am not sure if he even has an ego, aside from his self depreciating sense of humor) and accepted manner (he has stated several times, that the best way to acknowledge him and his role on Firefly, without all the awkward mannerisms is to simply address him as captain... AND WE DO) Lead an ensemble cast in a great sci fi show, that got cancelled (DAMN YOU FOX!), the influence of which can be seen in both shows like Battlestar Gallactica (which features a Firefly class ship in one spot in the miniseries) by the use of (gasp) actual scientifically plausible depictions winning the Film follow up a series of awards, including a Hugo and a Nebula award, unheard of in a science fiction film (sorry trek fans  )
Fillian now is in a popular cop show (which, unlike Hooker, actually is a good show)
Is constantly referenced in Big Bang Theory with an almost religious ferver at times...
Only Sci Fi show to air on the discovery Science channel (to their best ratings so far, even passing the How It's Made popularity) not bad for a show cancelled almost a decade ago.
What is really amazing, is the fandom's adherence to the shows greatness, the still desire to have more of the 'Verse, and the ability of Firefly's hard core fan base actually has an equal amount of male AND female followers, ensuring that Firefly/Serenity fandom will pass down generationally to the fans children...

Mebbe just wishful thinking, mebbe just dreaming...
But I have a feeling that there will be more...

EDIT; Just realized that I kinda derailed the thread... Mucho Sorry...

So, while I lament the lack of Firefly, and did throw in a hypothetical, I do want to see Walking Dead (unless the magic trade off was actually possible) Season 3...

Despite it's irritating moments, it still a great show, and I do enjoy it quite a bit...

So... A summer to go before I can re indulge in my favorite sunday night pass time... The "Where's Carl" drinking game...(formerly the Rick aims his .357 but then does absolutely nothing drinking game...)

Fillian.....is....no....Shatner. Firefly has it's place in geekdom just like all of the great shows that have come and gone. And given the current state of how TV is produced I have no doubt all of you loyal Firefly fanatics would scream bloody murder at the scripting just like the Trekkies screamed during the first generation crap. "It's not canon"... "where's "X" character?" Let old series live on in reruns and lets rock on with what we have now.

Very true Fillian is a much better singer than Shatner, ever see him in DR Horrible's sing a long blog, just amazingly fun and funny.

And sure fans already have voiced issue with the movie killing off Wash and Shepard Book. Like any good show the fans take issue with sudden changes like that.

Would a revamped next gen Firefly work? It could but it really depends upon the writing and actors they get. The next gen Star Trek was pretty chessy the first season, but slowly made up ground as it progressed.

I still would trade WD for more firefly, but only if it was still Joss making it. I think that is the key, if Joss isn't involved then it will probably fail.

As much as I love Walking Dead as a show, the comics are much better done. So for me I could live with out the WD show and just read the comics if Firefly were back.
My favorite quotes from Rorschach from the comic Watchmen

Oh My Fucking Rao.

You guys are asking TPTB to abandon at this point the ONLY zombie-related survival horror series currently running that's actually successful despite itself for a another space opera much maligned by its home network.
Honestly, Fox ran that series into a brick wall on purpose. You really think they wouldn't do it again?

As it is, I really have to wonder what AMC intends for the series. With Darabont gone, I expect the network to starve the series out in favor of their fair haired favorite son, Mad Men. Listen to Sam Witner's rant of what could have been: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_gB0W0ZIHbg
BTW, I must wonder if Georgia state government wants its tax rebate back.
My son, you will travel far, but never be alone, for I am with you, my M14 and battle axe comfort you.

Thoughh skeptical at first, I think it's better without Darabount... and Kirkman with more than a symbolic position on the show.

Mad Men has a more homgenized story line thus more appeal thus a way larger audience. Business is business and that is where the money goes. I like TWD more than Mad Men (I watch Med Men, I am a fan of that show) but I am also quite pragmatic about the realities that AMC faces regarding funding of the shows.

I talk Med Men with lawyers at my lawfirm. I talk The Walking Dead with Comm Center staff. Hell, most of the zombie geeks I know all complain about the improbabilities of minutiae of TWD... look at this thread. I have never heard anyone complain about the minutiae of Mad Men.

I was worried about the lack of darabont's influence until the last 4 or 5 episodes.... Just whoa...

As far as the inaccuracies in the show...

I think I wouldn't really like it as much if the show's characters used more common sense... it's very much a soap opera mentality in a post apocalyptic zombie infested world, and that's EXACTLY what I like about the show...

I like a little cheese on my gourmet bread dammit....

And frankly, it's more fun to bitch about it, to dig out the minutae and laugh at it and while watching it, the occasional facepalm moment actually makes it MORE fun to watch... It's got it's moments of amazement (Sophia coming out of the barn, Rick going all Eastwood at the bar, Shanking Shane, Daryl saying Sorry Brother as Dale pushes his head up to the gun barrel, to just name a few)
It also has a sense of instant pop culture phenomena about it, the Office Space music dubbed clip of Shane/Andrea/Daryl/T-Dog cleaning up a few zeds on the farm, the way traditional watercooler talk is showing people dropping into camps, Team Rick, Team Shane, as everyone dissects the show, and everything about it from how truly stupid Lori is to what would we do in any certain scenario.

The facepalm moments work because there are also moments of inspired genius...

And it's got zombies.....

Oh, and for the record... Shatner was never that good of an actor. He was a great Kirk, sure, but except for a few moments in his early career, he's not all that...

Leonard Nimoy, on the other hand... Man, I wish he would have done more films.... After watching Invasion of the Body Snatchers (78) and lately his turn guest starring in Fringe, I wonder if had other choices been made, he would have had a career much in the vein of a Vincent Price... he's just that good...

But I digress....

Ah, but such inspired digression, Seer! We're going to need a lot more of that to sustain us through the long months ahead. Among his many talents, Nimoy is also an accomplished photographer.

I haven't participated in the "trade TWD for Firefly?" discussion because I see no point. I've made my peace with what happened to Whedon's opus. I take some small measure of comfort knowing there's a special inner circle carved out of the fiery depths of hell that is waiting for the studio executives responsible for destroying that show. Justice will not be served in this life, but it assuredly will in the next. What's done is done. And yes, of course Firefly is superior to TWDTV. But that's a meaningless distinction in 2012.

TWD is real and now and unfolding in all its imperfect glory. So I chose not to dwell on a pleasant pipe dream or a wistful "what could have been". While not an even trade for the travesty I now call "Firefly", I see TWDTV as an example of "what the universe taketh away, the universe giveth back."

True, all true...

But if I may add that while Fox executives with such a track record do deserve their place in the fires of oblivion....

Browncoats also have a place waiting for them....

Ahhh, YoSafBridge...

Image

I was once the recipient of a far more... intense... hug than any fan ever has a right to expect from Christina Hendricks...

Image

This pic was taken a couple of minutes later... *sigh*

A couple of years later, when I had her sign the 8x10 I'd made of that pic, she was all like, "My, wasn't this a busty pose" and I told her how it was my very favorite picture. *grin*

Anyway, I didn't jump into the whole trade TWD for Firefly bit either... we're celebrating the tenth anniversary of Firefly this year, and, well, it's not coming back. I expect to get more stories from The 'Verse some day, but not with the original cast... wishing it were otherwise is just a painful exercise...

heh... well, if you're involved with the Browncoat community, you get to do things like walk the red carpet at the US premier of Serenity at Universal Citywalk, where you can hang out with the entire cast (except Alan, who missed it) at the after party, and then when you run into Christina again at a convention (the infamous Browncoat Backup Bash) she might squee and melt herself against you... *happy sigh*... then years later, at another convention (this was a Creation Firefly/Serenity Con), you can ask her to sign the pic and reminisce with her...

Half of the cast is at the point where they smile, wave, and come over when we run into each other. Hell, Adam comes and hangs out with us at bars...

Image

Though last year at the LA CSTS Screening, when I was the VIP wrangler, Nathan apparently had forgot me... everyone else, even Joss, knew me... and lordy, when Felicia Day smiles it really lights up the whole room! (yeah, she's not a BDH, but she was still invited to the CSTS on GP). You can actually see me in several scenes of her show The Guild last season... *grin*
