AK47 magazines

Postby twincougars » Tue Mar 13, 2012 5:48 pm

Just purchased a M10 762 AK47 Rifle from Atlantic Firearms (hasn't arrived yet). http://www.atlanticfirearms.com/storeproduct1103.aspx
Where's the best place to get inexpensive but reliable 30 rd. magazines for it. I expect to get around 5 - 10, depending on price. Also, I have a lot of loaded SKS stripper clips. Is there an easy way to strip the clips into the AK magazines or would I need some kind of adapter?

there used to be a chinese made stripper guide that fit over the top of the mag and let you use SKS strippers to load. Worked pretty good. I have at least one but since most of the ammo I get is not on strippers I have not used it much since.

I did a quick search and found this on utube. not the way I load a mag but a idea of what they look like

Then I found someone still selling them. $6.00

Good luck.

Centerfire Systems--$14.99. They're just the basic, no frills mags. Buy extras.

As for loading them with stripper clips, I have no idea. I'm old fashioned and I load one at a time. (Yes, it takes me forever, especially for a class).

Enjoy :D

This.

For stripper clips:
http://www.buy.com/pr/product.aspx?sku=220211047&sellerid=30885553

This thing ROCKS. Essential if you store your ammo on stripper clips like I do, and makes loading super easy. It even has a magnet that pulls out the empty stripper clip automatically! :D

They're some of the best. Anyone who pays more than $10 for a steel AK mag is a collector or an idiot.

MilCopp strongly recommended the East-German Waffle mags. Anyone got a lien on someone who has them in stock?

Yup, those mags kick ass: they look brand new, they don't have that rib on the back that tears up your hands, and they exhibit all of the toughness and reliability that shooters have come to expect from steel AK mags. If you order 4 or multiples of 4 they come with a 4 cell magazine pouch, that is handy for carrying them to and from the range.

Heh. Good luck. If you ever find any, let me know.

They're pretty hard to find right now. $35 or so when you can find them- I'd take steel over them for the price, you only save like 4 oz.

I'm pretty happy with the 8 I got for ~$25-28/ea back in 2008, but yeah I'd get the chicom-style $10 ones from aim today.

Picked up ten from Aim today, cheaper than the three bakelites I bought last week.

If you like overpaying, perhaps. I've yet to see anyone beat AIM's price on E. Euro Chicom-style slickbacks for $9.99.

Read this before you buy anything: http://www.milcopptactical.com/kalash.htm

Short version: shop around and pay $10 each for Chinese, or Eastern European, military surplus steel magazines. I get mine at Knob Creek Machine Gun Shoot, but there are good deals online as well.

They make an adapter that allows you to use SKS stripper clips to feed AM magazines. This is analogous to the "stripper clip guide" used with AR strippers and mags. I don't know of any magazines that accept stripper clips without a guide.

Here's what I mean: http://www.midwayusa.com/product/453905 ... steel-blue

Pretty sure the AIM mags are like the ones I have. They rock.

Also, ground the inner dimples on 3 to let the follower push all the way up to the feed lips.

So far, works very well, for almost half the cost of Yugo BHO mags. Homemade BHO mod FTW!!!

What's the advantage of this BHO? It's not like there's a bolt release, and as soon as a mag goes empty you reload it right away, so it's not sitting open to cool. I don't get it.

Yeah I'm not feeling the BHO either.
