Mitsubishi Pajero

Postby Nightlord » Mon Mar 19, 2012 6:42 am

Here's what I would do:

Take an SUV
Take the iron grate of a fly screen, and cover all the glass. This is to stop zombie accessing the car, and inevitably your flesh.
Cover the bumper with a thick piece of steel, and protrude some form of weapon e.g: Steel spikes. This is to kill all zombies in your way.
Remember to keep the door accessible. This is to stop zombies getting you while your trying to get in.
Finally, cover the entire car in black paint. This for camouflage at night, when zombies ate most active and aggressive.

Thanks,
Nightlord

Plastic bumper with plate steel covering = no bumper. Also, the spikes will be illegal in many places pre-PAW.

Black sticks out like nobody's business during the day and doesn't work any better at night--given a discussion of flat or matte finishes--than greys, blue, browns, or greens. You would be much better off, from my perspective, with a dark grey or even brown/tan paintjob that bears some semblance of stock-ish appearance.

As for the grates on the windows: if they keep stuff out, they can keep it in. If you're in a serious collision, that rolling fortress has suddenly become a potentially lethal cage. I would argue that it's better to focus on effective mobility, and limiting your preparations vehicle-wise that may hinder it in any circumstances, until you get to your actual bugout location.

Yeah, we all liked Mad Max...but even in the (impossible) ZPAW, those vehicle strategies aren't necessarily the most effective, and much more so in the more likely PAW/SHTF situations.

Then again, if this is a toy, go for it; but don't call a toy a prep or treat a prep as a toy.

Your survey is too vague. Is what a good idea? That your should RTFF before posting surveys? +1

Spikes on the bumper? Any zombie hunter 3rd class knows that you have to kill the brain to kill the ghoul. All you are doing is knee capping them. Since you've mentioned the Pajero and the flyscreen, it is safe to deduce that you don't live in North America.

That means you should forget the Pajero and get the indestructible Toyota 70 series Landcruiser!

In the event of a ZPAW, I do think having a slightly protected vehicle would be ideal. If you think about it though, a car already does a good job at keeping people out. The main area you need to re-enforse wuld be the front bumper, grill and winshield as most of you driving will be going forward. Sht spikes are a bad idea, or atleast large ones are a bad idea. Small spikes, just big enough to do lots of damage without impaling the Zed on the spikes. You don't want the Zed to hang around on your trip and slow you down. You want the Zeds out of the way, so a plow would be best. For the winshield, you could add metal suports and cover with LEXAN (not Plexiglass). Keep in mind you still have to see out your winshield.

I do plan on building a Cow Plow style Zed Plow for my 90 LEXUS LS400 just for shit and giggles, and Halloween Car Shows and ZS Events. The plow will be easly removeable. I will also add a custom roof rack to carry extra supplys and also alow an exit out the sunroof for several reasons.
