Shields???

Postby Nightlord » Mon Mar 19, 2012 3:36 am

Hey Guys,
I am new to this forum, so don't shred me alive please!

I was searching the forums, and I couldn't find any posts on shields! I was wondering... Why not?
So, tell me the pro's and con's of shields from a easily accessed screen fly door, to a full blown riot shield.
I know they will slow you down, but in close combat they would really help wouldn't they?

I once role-played that I was leading 50 men into a large fenced-in camp of mad Haitians, on an airfield near the island controlled by Castro. 40 of the men had shields and knew how to change formations quickly, and especially stomp forward, or lean left and lunge with the baton in the right. The other 10 were divided into 2-man snatch teams (MG-er’s of course). The shields would part, the snatch team would exit, and the lead man would deliver a kick to the midsection of the aggressor. The second man would then bodyslam the culprit and drag him back into the formation, where he could be stomped further. During this evolution, only two of the snatch teams needed to be used. The rest of the crowd then simmered down quite a bit and mostly urinated on themselves.

Someone else wrote it somewhere else: the shield is effective in individual combat and in formations where the fighters are well trained.
People put too much emphasis on ole’ Charlie Darwin’s theory about the survival of the fittest. It has produced a cottage industry of shake-weights, special-muscle-morphing powder drinks, and girly men that sell exercise videos. Not me.
