Soldier Water Filter $35 on ebay?

Postby moab » Sat Mar 17, 2012 3:54 pm

Has anyone found or read an actual comprehensive review with tests of this water filter? It's only $35 on ebay and claims over 500 gallons on one filter. I found several youtube reviews. But none that actually tested it's efficiency. It's very small and lightweight. It would be great if it could be proven to actually work. If not a Katadyn mini is in my future. The extra money is worth my life - concerning clean water. And it's four times the water for three times the price. But this thing is very small and very packable.

Ah - Henco en China -- and NO EPA rating? Is it even legal to sell in the US as a water filter?

As for me, if a product is "good enough" for the Chinese Army, it would look at it real hard - they have very different ideas on 'soldier safety'

Another question is obtaining replacement filters.

Your call, your health. Me, I'd pick a product that's been tested to US standards and has an actual rating...

I'm sure other will be along to share their views. Good to ask - and thanks for the post , never have seen current Chinese production in this product line.

Yeah, water filters are worth spending the $$$ on. I've been rocking a sweetwater for years. Although, I did use the Frontier Pro for the first time during the WBO as a drip system. I really liked how I could fill my source containers, then filter my water at camp while collecting firewood, setting up my bivy, etc...and they're fairly cheap (I think $20-ish?). MSR, Katadyn, Sawyer--those are the names you want to go with. Always have tablets or iodine as backup regardless.

Wow. I didn't know the drip systems were so cheap. And I didn't know they were rated by the government. Good to know.
